I just recieved in a trade a UK Penknife (design team model)

It is almost identical to a Calypso Jr., but with better steel - CPMs30V, better handle - G10, better pocket clip - deep pocket burnished wire clip.

The slip joint is stiff enough that I don't mind it not locking.

I still want & will buy at least one of the new Calypso jr's with ZDP-189, but other than a better steel, will still fall short of the UK Penknife's overall quality materials.

I hope they will make a calypso jr & sr with g10 or micarta handles with the new supersteel CPM-189 after the initial run of zytel.

As a UK Spyderco fan I felt it was my patriotic duty to buy this knife (especially since Sal had gone to the trouble to design it for us!). I cannot fault the UK Penknife and it has been my EDC since the day it arrived. This knife says everything about Spyderco design and quality and it is a great all rounder.

I too own a UK Pen knife and have to say it's THE BEST KNIFE I OWN. I have had 6 other Spydercos and they are fine knives, but the Pen knife is hands down the best knife I've used. you just have to get past the "no lock thing" ;)

Actually when I have to tell about the best Spyder that I have ever had I have to report of 2 of them. The best Spyder that I use is the one that I am carrying now. It is a big Dyad C-44P&S. I have been using it as an EDC for about a month now and you just can't beat it. ;)

Now I have also Spyders in my permanent collection that I have no intention of ever using. I have a Carbon Fiber version of the Civilian in Plain Edge. It is a numbered one to boot. I know, I know that a lot of you guys have better knives than that. But to a simple guy here in the midwest with limited resources I am sure proud of what I have. :)

...Isn't a knife, but is my Spyderco 302F and 302UF 8" ceramic benchstones.:).

SAy "glockman" I'll second what you just said. I have just about every sharpening tool that Spyderco has ever made. Those benchstones are super. TRy to get one of those "Razor Edge" sharpening guides to use along with your Spyderco Benchstones. You can see them by going to www.razoredgesystems.com. They will help you keep a precise angle. For a thorough and complete sharpening you just can't hardly beat a set up like the one I described. Good Luck Glockman. JD Spydo

I'm one of those freaks who can sharpen their knives to a razor-edge on a benchstone without needing to use one of those angle guides, and the large size of the Spyderco 302 benchstones makes it all that much easier.

I love my military & full sized micarta calypso, but too big for office use.

I find that the medium sized models best for me, my worker, harpy, calypso jr ltwt. & now my UK Penknife, are the right balance of small enough not to get hassled, while big enough for all you cutting jobs I come across & if nessesary, as a self defense knife.

My dragonfly, micarta mini dyad & ladybug are all excellent, but I feel "dis-armed" with them.

I kick myself for trading my stainless steel cricket, as it is thin & small, yet I still feel "armed".

I am looking forward to the zdp-189 calypso - not as nice of handle material as the UK, but perfect blade size, shape, grind & super-steel.

Most knives with g10 are like holding a rough file, not the Uk, you get a secure grip without it eating your skin or pants pocket off.

Now I am going to get greedy...Next I want a Uk with the ZDP-189 steel - everything else the same... or greedier still, with a lockback - keeping the handle & clip EXACTLY the same... I know, not much to ask for

My favorite Spyderco is the Wayne Goddard Ltwt. I have carried everyday to work for the last nine years. Works real dood for me .

I want the Penknife with ZDP-189 and polished "grey twill" G10 scales (see the inlay on the Spyker).
