Hi, I grabed a mint Batac, my first Busse :) it wasn't really sharp out of the box, I decided to put a convexed edge with the sandpaper method to a total angle of 40°, I checked it after with the sharpmaker. Now it is razor sharp. I would like to know, what is the factory bevel angle advised, I searched in the site and didn't find it, and among users what is the most efficient angle? Sorry if this thread has been beaten to death. I am not a collector and I intend to use this one for my outdoors.
Thanks

The factory bevels are ground as a compromize between durability and cutting performance, largely in favor of durability. Depending on whether you find yourself chopping into rocks or gravel or steel bars or whatever it can go about as thin as you care to. Some prefer to leave them thicker for an extra security margin. I tend to leave them at roughly 20 degrees per side. Others have gone far, far thinner.

Thanks Yoda, I favour the cutting ability than chopping, to get a 40° convexed bevel took me a few minutes with the sandpaper method and removed quite some steel material, I can have more acute, for these chores but I've got smaller and more appropriate blades. I imagine that choppers are more than 40° bevelled.
I have another question, I read a thread on the batacs, I am not sure if I understood all the content, is it true that there are several blades thickness, mine is 5mm black coating included. I read that there was more thick, if so I've been lucky and probabely found the best for my purposes :)

The BATAC cam in a couple different thicknesses. i dont know exacly 5mm is but if you got the CG (combat grade) BATAC then it should be around .187 but there were otheres like the special edition and the limited edition that had a different thickness, but i dont know there thickness but it was more than the CG version.
