Greg has a bible verse in his byline. The bible is full of references to iron, swords, smiths, and the like.

Here's another one that's fun:

Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Damascus and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they threshed Gilead with implements of sharp iron.
Amos 1:3

Do you know some more?

I can't remember the verse.....maybe in Matthew, where Jesus tells one of the diciples to sell their garments if they have to to buy a sword.

EDIT: It was Luke: Luke 22:35-38

35. And he said to them, When I sent you without purse, or scrip, or shoes, did you want any thing? And they said, Nothing. 36. He therefore said to them, But now let him who hath a purse take it, and, in like manner, a scrip; and let him who hath not a sword sell his garment and buy one. 37. For I tell you, that this also which is written must be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned with the transgressors. For those things which relate to me have an end. 1 38. And they said, Lord, lo, here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.

I was going to quit knife making a couple three years ago and it was tearing me up so I prayed about it and flipped open my Bible and the first verse I put my finger on read,
"take up a sharp knife in thy hand".

Ezekiel 21
16 O sword, slash to the right,
then to the left,
wherever your blade is turned.

An interesting reversal of a commonly refered to verse:
Joel 3
10 Beat your plowshares into swords
and your pruning hooks into spears.
Let the weakling say,
"I am strong!"

God endorses concealed carry
Judges 3
16 Now Ehud had made a double-edged sword about a foot and a half [1] long, which he strapped to his right thigh under his clothing.

  1. 3:16 Hebrew a cubit (about 0.5 meter)

"A sword, a sword,
sharpened and polished-
sharpened for the slaughter,
polished to flash like lightning!

Shall we rejoice in the scepter of my son Judah ? The sword despises every such stick.

The sword is appointed to be polished,
to be grasped with the hand;
it is sharpened and polished,
made ready for the hand of the slayer."
Ezekial 21:9-11

Chapter 21 of Ezekial talks a lot about the sword, in this case Babylon being the sword of judgement that God intends to bring down on Israel.
-----------

"Now, son of man, take a sharp sword and use it as a barber's razor to shave your head and your beard."
Ezekial 5:1

Ooooooo.... better get that edge keen before goin' to work on this shavin' job. ;)

matt 10:34 "think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I come not to send peace, but a sword."
rev 6:4
And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another:and there was given to him a great sword.
