If you haven't heard, I love the Sarges stuff. He is known for his 9" Biltons and 12" Dhankutas for the most part, but his bigger blades are masterpieces IMO and not often seen. Here is the 18" 29 oz. chiruwa chandan handle khukuri that came up the other day on the 1/20 deal. Yangdu just called it a "wood handle khukuri by Sgt. Khadka", but what it is closest to is a Samsher model, of which he has done 3 that I know of, counting this one. However this is the first with a chiruwa handle.
Here is a pic:
The pic is a bit fuzzy and refelctive of the wall, but you can see the karda and chakmak have some interesting wood. I would swear it is African Zebrawood, as I have some grips on a 1911 that look identical to that, but where would he come up with that? Pretty anyway. Another note, is that all the chapes on his khukuris are heavier metal and shorter than the "standard" HI chape. As I understand it, his stuff comes from his own shop and then is sent on to HI for shipment.
Here is a closer pic of the chiruwa handle. This really balances out the knife and the handle feels great:
The remaining pics are of some other Sgt. Khadka pieces. From left to right in the next picture:
a 15" 21 oz. Chiruwa BAS with grey horn handle, a 15.5" 23 oz. Chiruwa AK in horn, a 19.5" 29 oz. WWII w/ chainpuri style chandan handle, the chiruwa Samsher, and a 20" 40 oz. Samsher with Chandan handle. This last is my single biggest, sharpest, baddest chopper of all time. (Let's just say it's the one I think about when I look at the back of my bosses neck!
)
Here is a nice closeup of the handles (the patterned wall almost makes the last 3 handles looks marred, but it's just a reflection):
And a final view with the knives rearranged a bit:
I don't know what the Sarge does with his time, as his knife production ebbs and flows, but I am thrilled when I can get my hands on his stuff. His son Ram is attending medical school right now, and Steve has been setting up fundraisers a couple of times a year. Sometimes his Dad will put up some knives to help raise $ for his boy. I hope we will see lots more from him.
