Here is the Big Bowie that I was lucky enough to draw. It was sent right to
Paul long for leather and I just recieved it today. Paul did a fantastic job and I told him to do what he wanted he always does any anyway and he did a fantastic job . I believe he used Beaver tail for an inlay and Nick was kind enough to make a Damascus stud that matches the guard.

My impresions with the knife are that it is amazeingly light for it's 11 1/2 inch blade. The balance is excellent blade shape near perfect fit and finish is if it is possible to good:D

Thanks Nick and Paul for a beautiful package

congratulations Joe!
You have some great taste in knives, (and sheaths:thumbup:) I must say.

Real nice Joe, looks like the kind of Bowie that just makes ya all happy when picked up.

Great knife, great sheath. I know from my own Wheeler bowie that Nick favors a fast blade. He had mine completely hand sanded (and you know how meticulous he is about that), but wasn't happy with the blade mass and took it back to the grinder.

Having hand-sanded a big camp knife (to not nearly so fine a grit as Nick takes his) I can only say that it takes some serious commitment to turning out the best knife you can to throw away all that grunt work and return to the grinder all for improved feel.

Bowies can be heavy blades - nothing wrong with that if that refelcts the maker's and buyer's preference. But they can be every bit as fast and well balanced as a fighter if those elements are set as design / performance goals at the very outset.

Congrats!

Roger

I got to see this one in San Antonio, and it is "Wheeler Light." If ever a knife and sheath deserved each other, these two must. Good for you, Joe.

John

I did not have time to really expand on this knife when I posted I was going to test run a Carolina Skiff with a buddy and this knife does deserve more of a review than I dished out in the original post

So here it goes

This knife and I mean this in no way a negative is very simlilar to a Dean El Diablo on steroids.

It is very fast and well balanced and I do not mean sort of I was told Nick could really make a knife feel good and I will tell you it feels great,

It feels so light that power becomes something you ponder but with an 11 1/2 inch blade with a very keen edge ya think speed and momentum would really carry the day and i am sure that it would but alas I will probale never know. Most knives I get I immediately cut some tubes, rope etc. but the finish and care with which this knife was made has probale doomed this stallion of a knife to a sheltered life.

I know enough about blades to see a winner that would perform if asked to and not that the price takes this blade out of the user relm it is the attention to detail and perfect finish that makes it hard for me to put that first mark on.

Hell even pappy made the lined sheath a little bit looser than he usually does for me so it would not mare the fine finish.

Come on Nick make me something a little rougher so I can use it and not feel guilty:D

here is a slightly brighter photo

I am no Coop but i try

Nice snag Joe, I fondled that one quite a bit and you are right Nicks finishes are impeccable, something i am still striveing to achieve.

So the fastest knife in the west just moved to Bethlehem ?! :D
Congrats on an extremely well crafted package, Joe.

You're very lucky to successfully grabbed Nick's big Bowie, Joe :D
It sure is a beauty made with high precision! The way Nick cut the plunge is so nicely done
And Paul's sheath is really a fantastically compliment to the beatiful Bowie :)
Should congratulate you Joe, Nick and Paul as well! Congratulations!

BTW, it's the one called as a South West Bowie isn't it?

Another awesome score Joe! I had the pleasure of meeting Nick at the San Antonio show and checking out his work up close. His fit, finish and overall quality of work is just outstanding, plus he's a helluva nice guy! Paul's leather(as always) just takes it to a whole new level...WOW!

Thanks for the kind words folks!!! :)

Joe, I'm elated that you got it and like it enough not to throw it in the Susquehanna River. ;) :D

Paul's work is always jaw-dropping!!! I'm glad he could make use of that little steel thingy I sent him ;)

I just got a message from you on my cell, I'll give you a ring back real asap.

Eric Eggly at PointSeven had this bowie under his lens in San Antonio and I thought I'd add his handiwork to your thread.

Thanks again Joe!!! :)
