I got the two Biltongs I ordered yesterday, and boy are they neat! They seem kinda delicate, until you look at the thick spine and aggressive grind.

I must say, I never held out much fer small khuks, but if you don't think of this as a khuk, more like a curved utility knife, you'll get it. Alsthough it is small handled, you can three-finger it pretty well, and I've added some thump traction filework to the spine of one to allow for a forward choked-up grip. Also, in striking with it, if you add just that bit of snap as it goes into the target (in this case, cardboard), it'll swing forward and present the tip in a sorta swing thrust movement. really quick knife, interesting weight forward balance not often seen in belt size knives (must be the partial tang)

I like, and so will the recipients. I may hafta get me one some day.

Thanks to HI for the great deal, I woulda never got one otherwise.

Biltong is hard as wood & need a good knife to slice it up for eating - hence these biltong knives for eating biltong....

Seriously? I was wondering about that.

Kronckew, nice to see a gloucestrian on the net, I thought they were all in hideing;) . I was born there, live in london but always thought of glos as home.

Hi StmmZaum,

Not a true Glousterman, born & bred - just a transplanted expat from Alabama, tho this is my home now for the last 15 yrs...

i like it out here in the Cotswolds, couldn't live in london, too many city folk jammed in there. just think what they'd do if they saw me choppin brush with a kukri...or shavin chunks off a hunk of biltong. Beer's cheaper here too.

p.s. - you can buy antelope biltong here in Cirencester, in a 'gourmet' shop just off the market square. It's REAL expensive, about £6 per 100grams. good emergency rations tho. it does NOT come in neat strips like jerky comes in the US, so you need a good sharp knife to shave off bits without losing a finger.

The butcher in Highworth (Nr. Swindon)
is selling it in neat little packets of shavings from some company up north, tried some, it was terrible - dog liked it though.

p.s. - glad to see someone else suffered thru a few latin classes....

Fair enough, I am the opposite, born and bred I suppose but lived in london for 15 years. I love it down that way, got family in the Forest of Dean (though not having the accent I am seen as a bit of a foreigner), lovely area though.

I know what you mean about biltong and jerkey, mate of mine was in the USAF, stationed over here, used to get huge bags of Jerkey from the PX, now I have to get those pathetic little sainsburys packets. As for Biltong, my brother brought some back from SA and got me addicted. Beer? £1.80 for a pint of strongbow in some places, blooming people! I will have to find that place in Cirencester, just not sure I can bring myself to pay that much.

Sorry, too young to go through Latin, my girlfriend did though so I have picked up some odds and ends, enough to get by shall we say ;). Actually I picked up the phrase when reading about a French philosopher, rather liked the phrase.
