After getting off to a stutter start with this knife here is revision C, the latest version at BirGorkha. It is the BirGorkha AK Bowie and they do like big.

Specs are almost 16 inches, about 2 & 3/4 wide and almost -- get this, now -- 3/4 inch thick and 2. 75 pounds. This has got to be the biggest and meanest Bowie around.

This particular model was made by Sanu who did a very commendable job. Fit and finish is Sanu style with magic stone. It is a 10 out of 10 knife but the scabbard leaves something to be desired. We are going to sell off the three or four models in stock as blems because the keeper strap on the scabbard is no good. I think it is in the wrong place and it is certainly not substantial enough to keep that 2.75 pound knife in place when you start pulling negative Gs. Feedback from the field needed. The sarkis have never seen a knife quite like this one and are not sure what to do.

Pala and Gelbu figure they can sell this version for $175 but we will sell off the rev. C's with the poor retainer strap on the scabbard for $125 provided you'll give us some feedback and suggestions for improvement on the scabbard and give us a field report on the knife itself. And we will pay shipping. That is a lot of steel for $125 delivered to your door.

Call or email if interested.

Khukuri FAQ

This is KNIFE! And it will fit kitchen use above any other HI khukuris. If there happen to be this kind with its tip half inch dropped, I'll take one. Customs declaration is "hocho (kitchen knife)", no joking. With its blade wider at the bottom than the handle, it will work very well as a kitchen knife, and its weight and sharp edge will serve well for frozen food, even if sashimi suddenly wakes up and attacks me.

Did you enjoy today?

Two gone, two left.

This scabbard has got to be redone to be more funtional. Where is the frog? The retaining strap is a joke. Scabbard goes back for rev. D. Get on the ball, sarkis, or I'll send Terry Sisco over.

Uncle,

Nothing soothes the nerves like a sharp knife in hand...

Three gone.

I think the scabbards are near worthless on these current AK Bowies. The sarkis put no frog on it, that little retainer strap is a joke, and the more I look at it the more disgusted I get.

Somebody design a good scabbard for this knife so I can get something decent to house the knife. Incorporate a good frog. This really needs improvement.

From 1/2" spine (Cobalt't's original specs) to 3/4" spine. The HI Trout and Bird knife continues to get better and better.

Granted that you condition won't let you on the road, the HI khukaholics need to put up a table or two at the Vegas Golden West Gunshow or at the Tulsa show and send a review to one of the magazines.

Incidentally I pulled out the Super Salyan and it just didn't give me that sense of awe it used to before I got the 30" Sirupati.

Rusty, if bigger is better (and there are those of us who do feel this is the way things should really be) then this is a definite improvement on early versions. But the more I look at and deal with this scabbard the more I hate it.

Yes, yes, get a big ole table at the Tulsa gun show. Just make it a sturdy table if the khukuri spines continue their trend of getting thicker!

Due to recent surgery I'm stuck with a low weight limit in lifting so poor Vikash has been having to handle the crates and cartons alone. He recently asked if the kamis needed to keep making the khukuris heavier and heavier. Some of the crates weigh just about the same as Vikash who tips the scales at about 120 lbs.

Must be time for medication, but I can't stop visuallizing the HI table being next to the lukewarm iron table. You know, the one whose owner puts out the "Proof" video? With their super strong genuwine 1/4" thick spine bowie. We have kardas and chakmas as thick. Or we can by then, hee hee.

Hey, that looks like mine. Massive yet unimposing. Large, yet inocuous(right!).

The scabbard is just like mine, and Bill, you are absolutely right, It's awefull. I wonder if it was the straight blade that gave them the problem(hehe). The knife itself is well made and should last longer than the mercedes it came from.

The more I look at and deal with this scabbard the more I hate it and although you may have been joking, Cobalt, I actually think the sarkis were stumped by the straight blade!

I need to get a good design picture over to them so they will have at least a starting point to work from. There is no frog to carry the knife and that useless retaining strap never should have been -- total waste.

But, as you said, it's a hell of a knife!

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle Bill, how about suggesting to the sarkis a simple pouch sheath with integral belt loop?

Harry

I made a make shift frog for my scabbard out of para cord. The leather is flimsy and the suede stains with oil visibly. I think all the new H.I. scabbards are in the 5-8 oz range.

Sorry to say, the curved edge makes it a rather poor meat cleaver. I always had to do some slicing after chopping. However, it is a great slicer due to the curves and weight.

Will

Thanks, Harry and Will. I think I may start a thread on "what kind of scabbard" and see what ideas we get. I will have to send a picture of model. Words will never get it.
