I've just about decided that a new hunting knife for my son's buddy isn't the way to go (see my prior thread-http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=727862). Since he's a Nuclear Security Officer at the plant, I'm now thinking of something more "tactical" for him to carry at work. They wear swat team type uniforms with full tactical gear including body armor, so that may be they way to go.

These are the one's I'm thinking about for him:

G-10, ATS-34 Taclite
Strider/Buck Buildout
Vantage Pro
Tops/Buck CSAR

The Taclite and Vantage are probably the lightest (he's already toting a load), but the Tops and Strider would really fit in with the outfit.

tops csar or strider
both will be impressive to the fellow workers
(sniff sniff , bucksway did not get me a knife for my birth day (march 1) but that was ok ...
he gave me a nice 22 pinker for xmass!)

I think the big ol Csar hangin off the belt in its hefty sheath would be best...IMHO. 2nd choice Vantage.

I vote for the CSAR or Vantage also.

In nuke security, if he needs a knife we're all doinked!

Well, I'm down to two choices in my own mind at least. Either the Taclite (he admired it once) and the Vantage pro. I don't mind getting rid of the CSAR, but it's role as a usable knife is limited IMO, it would only be a prop.

I have a couple of the Vantage Pros (plus they are readly available), and only one Taclite of that model, so the edge goes to the Vantage.

Have worn tack vest. Haven't handled Tops/Csar. Vantage Pro is light (GOOD) and stays in the hand well (GOOD). And if it gets lost due to whatever it is easily replaceable - quickly. 300Bucks

The Vantage Pro is a very useable knife, not just a prop. The odds of him ever using a knife in a combative situation are very unlikely (lets hope so, at least) but the Vantage Pro is good for all those incidental things a pocket knife is used for.
