The BK-10 Dilemma

Two days ago I got my Camillus/Ka-Bar BK-10 in the mail and I've been I've been studying it, comparing it, handling it and just contemplating it over the past 72 hours.

I won't to into the details of the knife because the BK-10 has been covered extensively in other postings on this forum.

Initial impressions are very, very good. This is the knife I'd hoped the BK-2 would be when I ordered it, my first Becker, back in April. The BK-10 is light, well balanced and just the right size. I think it is easily the best general purpose Becker blade I've encountered and overall it's my second favorite, right behind the BK-7.

What I have not done is take it to the woods and give it a full and thorough evaluation. And herein lies my dilemma. I am very reluctant to take it out and beat it up. I consider this knife more a collectors item than a using knife. It's unique provenance (blade by Camillus, finished by Ka-Bar, limited production run, etc.) and price are making me lean towards just putting this knife away and maintaining it in clean, original condition.

But, BUT, I very much want to test a BK-10 and put it to use in the field. Notice I said 'a' BK-10, not my current BK-10. A future BK-10. Perhaps a standard production model made by Ka-Bar. With all the enthusiasm over the coming tweeners and twixters and who knows what else I can't help but think that Becker & Ka-Bar already have a proven design just waiting to go into production.

So if someone in Olean is reading this, pleeeeze crank up the BK-10 production line!

Oh, and what's up with the noisemakers? Clearly I missed the joke :)

no word as of yet on the bk10 production, years out i believe. hey man its up to you and i get that the price tag is higher than the other beckers, and its technically 1 of 160 and wont be exactly like that ever again.....but on the other hand it is the knife youve been waiting for....

If I could get my hands on one I would use the hell out of it, but that's just me. What a sweet looking blade!

i think they said 2012-2013 or so?

production will happen

no worries

use it or not. buy another one new or used, or not. they're not terribly rare or anything. most people who have them like them lots, so, good luck :>

or hey, go buy a "BK12" too :> try that out :>

Use it, thats what they are for. Once you do, you will realize why we want it back. Yes, it's THAT good !

The BK10 is the MAIN reason i became a BeckerHead, & now that i have one, i am REAL glad i did.

I would buy a regular production BK10 in a heartbeat, looks like one hell of a knife.

Actually...

I was thinking very, very hard about the -12 (are we allowed to call it the BK-12?) as something to fit the role as the sub-BK-7. I may just have to take the plunge.

Oh, that's too cute! I wondered just what the heck was rattling around in the handle and when I took the scales off today I went "What the heck?"

Thanks!

Get a 7 and cut it down to size...

I don't own a safe queen anything. I drive my cars, shoot my guns and beat on my knives. Things like my dad's Buck 119 he took to AF survival school circa 1969 I don't take on hiking trips or baton anymore - but I still use it once in a while.

Yeah, Toooj said 2013 for the production 10s and even that is no guarantee. I suggest you give yourself a week of research into finding a beater 10. if you don't have any luck then go use that bad boy. You'll always be able to pretty it back up into display condition anyway.

My 10 has become my primary knife. Since receiving it, I have not spent one second in the woods without it. It is my go to knife. My friend, my lover, my everything. mmmmmmmmmm my kniiiiiiiiiiife.

My thoughts exactly! I use it every chance I get. Do I beat the tar out of it like I would my BK2...no but it is a user just like every other knife I own. You could spend a lot more money on another user that isn't a LE knife. I love and cherish mine like no other but it will be used, just not quite abused.

calm down, take a deep breath, exhale, inhale... there now don't you feel better :)

Shame on me I haven't even taken the bell out of the handle let alone use it, not even on paper:o

I use mine. I don't beat on it like my 2, but I use it. Got a pretty nice leather sheath for doing so. Lol..... It is what it is. Your knife. Your decision. I just couldn't let mine sit in the box without trying it out.

I don't use any of my LE's , however I do have 2 Cammy users so I didn't see the need to ugly up a 1/180 knife.
