A couple weeks ago, I asked about tweeners in the snark. After a few suggestions/tips/things, James offered this..

I like your attitude, young man. Let's make a deal, just between you and me. (I do not represent Becker Knives or KA-BAR in any way.)

Get you a BK16 or a 15 or 17 ASAP. Keep it sharp. Put aside all your other knives, including kitchen cutlery. Use your Becker "tweener" around your farm and fields and kitchen table for 30 days.

I'm talking about true EDC testing. I mean, use that one knife for every cutting task that you have to deal with, from breakfast to supper, from barbed wire to peeling potatoes to cleaning a fish or your fingernails or whatever.

If you honestly don't like it after all that, I will buy it from you for the same price you paid retail. Even if it's dull or chipped or whatever.

You down for that , or not?

Dead serious.

So, of course, I accepted his offer/challenge. And after a few days, a 15 was ordered, today it arrived.

The goal of this thread is to provide an in-depth review on the BK15 that comes from 30 days of EDC using it for everything I would use one of my normal EDC knives for (and maybe a bit more ;)). Each day (hopefully, some days it may be 2 or 3 before I make a new entry), I will make a new entry or two in the "journal" I'll be keeping in this thread, and when the 30 days are up, I will compile each day's entry and write a final review in another thread (which will be linked to from here). Some days it may have pictures or videos, other days it may be just text. It will depend on what I did with it that day.

The first log entry will be in it's own post below.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

Very nice knife right out of the box. Razor sharp. As soon as it came out of the box, I shaved the hair off of my arm and sliced a business card into tiny pieces. The jimping is perfect, just enough to grab your thumb, but not uncomfortable. The handles, like all Beckers, are extremely comfortable. Some people say that Becker handles are too slick, but I find them to be very grippy. In my opinion the choil could be a bit bigger, but I have pretty wide fingers, so for most people it's probably just fine. It has a nice deep belly, very nice aesthetics. The sheath is near perfection, two retention straps may be a bit of overkill, but I don't mind.

I'll be going camping on the mountain tomorrow night, so expect lots of pics of it in use. May even go out for a few minutes today to baton through a couple pieces of firewood.

CONCLUSION

Very happy with the BK15 from my first impressions. It hasn't gotten much use at all yet, but I only got it about 20 minutes ago, and it'll be getting a good workout soon.

Good one Dawson! I'll be watching this! I have no doubt that at the end of this James will NOT be buying this from you.

Nos, you've been saying that your knife skills are not that great at this point. I fully expect to see them grow exponentially during this if you do it right. I'd like to see not only you're current everyday uses, but also uses outside of your comfort zone. Push the limits of that blade by pushing your own limits.

Thanks all.

@Rick, Hope they do. Going camping tomorrow on the mountain, I'll be starting my campfire with a firesteel, making feathersticks, etc.

Here's entry number two for the day.

USE FROM THE DAY:

Decided I couldn't stand not doing something to it, so I went into the woods for about 15 minutes.

Started to carve my first initial and my BH number into the tree, next thing I know, I'd been bitten. Within about 1 minute of use. Already bit me.

VERY clean cut, obviously from a VERY sharp knife. No pics of it cleaned up, but you can hardly see the cut. It's almost too clean if that's possible.

Carving finished (sorry, bad lighting made bad pics).

And finally, even after batoning this right on this spot for a bit, it still shaves hair.

CONCLUSION:

Very pleased with the performance of the knife. Still razor sharp. Can't wait to take it camping and put it through it's paces.

I love my 15, make sure you try it out for food prep as well, really excels here. Great thread boys.

I will. Maybe tonight on hotdogs when I'm camping. Can't wait to see how it works as a camp knife.

This is exciting. Can't wait to see all of the daily use ideas on this blade.

Thanks.

Entry 1 for the day..

USE SO FAR:

So far today I've cleaned my finger nails, sliced some loose threads from a shirt, sanded the coating down a bit to reduce the drag when cutting, and gave it a bit of a sharpening to get it back to easily removing hair. Did good at everything so far today, and tonight when I go camping I'm gonna see how it performs as my only camp knife. Maybe one or two more entries today, but there won't be one on the camping until tomorrow some time.

CONCLUSION:

Still very happy with it.

Noswad, keep the pics coming.

I grew up on a farm and a lot of the things I experienced, and you probably experience, got taken for granted by me growing up. The overwhelming majority of folks don't get to have the experience of waking up everyday with chores to do and animals to take care of before you even think about doing something else. It didn't occur to me then how lucky I really was. You are very fortunate to not only live on a farm but to have beautiful terrain and scenery right outside your door.

Seeing your experiences with the 5 is great...and please keep the farm pics coming.

Don't worry I'll keep 'em coming. ;)

And yeah, having stuff to do is a bit bothersome sometimes, but it's nice, gives you a good routine. Homeschooling helps me experience it a lot more. When I took those pics today I was actually in the barn lot feeding our orphaned lambs. I'll see if I can find the two albums of pics I took for JT a month or so back.

Thanks. :)

Great looking property you've got.

Also, I don't think you'll be sending the knife away after 30 days... ;)

Thanks. :) I don't think I will either. :D

Here are the two farm pic albums for anyone who wants to see them. Album 1 Album 2

Note that the "two weeks ago" thing in the first album is no longer accurate.

Very cool Noswad. When I got my 15 it became my EDC. Carried it for a good long while, its a highly, highly capable blade. Lot tougher than it gets credit for and its ground well so its an excellent cutter. Makes for a very awesome belt knife.

If you want to carry this in its stock sheath a little tighter and less obvious you can slip the sheath down in your front pocket, then run your belt through the loop, will keep it in place and secure. This is how I edc'd my 15. I live in a fairly large city and that kept the knife tucked away enough to avoid the stares but not deep enough to be considered concealed. If you have and questions feel free to ask!

Good luck, it won't be hard to carry this for 30 days, it'll be hard to stop carrying it!!

Thanks! That's actually how I carried it for a couple hours yesterday when going to play practice. Don't think anyone even noticed it there. :)
