The BK19 Becker Nessmuk, Great knife with an intolerably crappy sheath

The BK19 Becker Nessmuk arrived with a blade that somebody didn’t spend much time sharpening which I was able to correct quickly. The knife itself has a great design, would make a good bushcraft knife, and it’s a pretty competent kitchen knife. However, the sheath that it has is intolerably bad. It’s a plastic design and the blade snaps into it. It is so tightly held that it is actually dangerous to pull it out. It does not come out smoothly, you have to jerk it fortunately the knife has been out long enough that there are several outfits that make nice leather sheets for it. If anyone can suggest somewhere where I can get one I’d like to know.

transmaster transmaster Question:
Does the Becker "plastic" sheath dull the blade like the Cold Steel "Secure X" (fiberglass reinforced?) "plastic" sheath does?

In answer to your question, there are quite a few sheath makers here that would be happy to make you a sheath.

I just checked the fit of the BK-19 in the sheath, and it is possible it could have an impact on the blade, it does not have glass in the plastic mix, so the material is softer than the blade. The problem is the force required at this time to remove the knife.

I’ve modified a couple of sheaths with careful use of a diamond file. Heat gun as well, but harder for me to control the outcome.

I have a similar KaBar sheath on my Marine KaBar M3; it works out very well with this heavy blade. But it fits differently.

I can fix this. I have some thin copper washers that I can shim it up. I still want a leather sheath, but this adjustment will mitigate the overly tight fit of the Kabar sheath.
