Anyone own one of these babies? Mmmm... they look so sophisticated, yet simple... clean cut, James Bond style blades, and in keeping with the traditional SAK look. If I wore a suit to work I'd have one in a pocket somewhere for sure... I already have two Spartans, so I can't justify buyin' another one, but... anyone know if any other of the less expensive SAK models come in black as well?

i got several black spartan... put some glasses srewdriver on the cork screw and i'm all set... it looks really2 nice while it still shiny, but the black cellidor actually show more scratces easily... still look so manly and elegant though...

spartan is one of my collection, it got them in red, blue, black, white, cammo, rubby, saphire, red nylon, corporat promos... some of it is more than one...

if you one a similar sak, you could consider a tinker... the black one is also nice, but my favorit is the yeallow one... it actually more comfortable to hold since its got screwdriver instead of corkscrew...

but my most pocketed saks is the 84mm model... like sportsman, tourist or tinker small...
get some. you'll love it! but most of the 84mm is commonly RED... only one od my sportman is white nylon and 3 sportsman in yellow...
if its available in black, i'll get more 84mm in a heartbeat...

also, spartan is so affordable, you dont need reason to justify your purchase!... hehehe...

if you want one in black, go get it... and enjoy it...

goodluck with your purchase...

Agreed. The 84mm models are the best! BTW, you can find black replacement scales for the 84mm models online. I haven't ordered some yet, but I will some day and I prefer black as well.

Aye the Spartan IS cheap-that's why I already have two of them. I've got a plethora of slipjoint multitools and a handful of SAKs but never really got into specific models in such. My beat up Spartan is reserved for outdoor use while my nice new red one is an EDC knife. I love the newer style textured grips. Maybe I can find someone to trade my new red spartan for a black one, and then get a more outdoor oriented model for backpacking, in red. I am really not sure which model I should be looking at-something not much bigger than the Spartan as far as width, but I'd like the saw if at all possible. I guess I'll spend some more time in these forums and find the ideal model :D

If you have two Spartans just buy a set of black 91mm scales and then you'll have a red one and a black one.

Totally agree, they look fantastic but do show up the scratches more. The good news is that you can polish them up again. You can buy SAK scales seperately and replace the ones you have, they just clip on. Once you take them off thought they'll never quite go back the same though.

The most basic saw based SAKs are the Camper or the Hiker, depending if you want the corkscrew or the Phillips screwdriver on the back.

These ones look high polished. Do they have the textured scales as well?

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty certain not. In the 91mm range I can only think of the Ecoline (the textured Nylon) coming in red or Stayglo. It's common in the 111mm range and I have some on a 84mm SAK so there's a chance it was done but I don't recall ever seeing them.

The one I saw on Amazon.com was definitely textured. At that price it kinda beats the purpose to pay 9 bucks for a set of scales. I might just wind up doing a swap on the exchange, and buying the Huntsman in red...

The black Spartans look really cool and "stylish".
I have some myself:

The middle-one gets babyied, because it is the Spartan I made myself during the Victorinox Road Show...
