Well here's my take:

The Good:

Very well attended this year, I got to meet Veronique Laurent (lovely lady), Cliff Parker (very personable) and Bob Dozier(gruff but nice), Owen Bush and the rest of the British contingent as well as the absolutely delightful and talented Amy Valerious.

Plus renew old friendships and acquaintances Vince and Grace Evans (my gosh the man is talented and Grace is awesome) Paul Jarvis (another world class talent) and the very generous Sonny Suttles.

Lots of knives!

Saw the best Cinquedea reproduction I've ever seen.

Got to spend time with my son.

Vince won TWO awards, deserved!

The Bad:

Didn't see the cutting competition this year.

Weaver didn't bring all their machines.

The flippin Balisong boys and their flipping antics

I didn't see Kevin Cashen this year.

Medford's Swiss army knife. The concept is a great idea, the execution left a lot to be desired.

The Ugly:

Those idiots that think the Blade show is comic con or the Renaissance Faire and dress accordingly.

The hotel I stayed in. Guys just pay full price. Just do it...

So what's your take?

Can you tell us more about why it was disappointing? I have been interested in this knife.
It was Extremely stiff to open while at the same time the nail nicks were very small and even partially obscured by one of the other tools. The blade felt like an afterthought, and honestly the tools were not as well designed as those on a standard Swiss army knife. This is on a 240 dollar knife. Notably this is also just my opinion your mileage may vary. Love the concept though.

Tell us more about the Cinquedea, please 😊

Wish I had taken some pictures, but I'm sure you will see some eventually since it won best fixed blade.

Anyway, it had a pattern welded blade with I think six fullers in the traditional configuration on both sides. The guard and pummel were fully engraved with a floral motif. The tang was exposed at the back of the guard and engraved to match and the handle and pommel were comprised of in think eight separate pieces which were so well put together it looked seamless.

I didn't know how well it would do in the judging because I was not sure the judges would understand the subtleties. Fortunately they did.

I thought it was a good show overall. A lot of great people to talk to. Scored a couple I'd been looking for. The balisong boys were out in full force. It's whatever, I didn't really spend a whole lot of time in the second room anyways.

I saw the Demko fixed blade on youtube im going to need one of those comes in D2 AUS10 and Magnacut ....

Garbage T-shirt from a garbage man who sells garbage knives. What a shocker . I have a Slim Midi I bought second hand a few years ago and it'll fail a spine tap, forgot a spine whack. I can make the lock fail with just my bare hands.
What real-world application does a “spine whack” represent? Cracking walnuts open in the wilderness?
To clarify I myself am Chinese and found the shirt to be hilarious 🤷‍♂️
The offended will just say you don’t understand what you should be offended by so they’ll be offended on your behalf.
God bless you.

To be honest, I LOL'ed a bit at the shirt myself...but I'm not a butt-hurt millenial or gen-Z'er either.
I laughed a little. I wouldn’t buy it, it’s a little tacky but I think people are blowing this up to be bigger than it is.

It sounds like the Cinquedea you saw was a one of a kind custom, not a prototype or sample product that will be commercially available?
