The Bladesmths ; Story of Ruana Knives. A short documentary.

That was great to see thanks for posting it.

I've seen that before. Great story. I love family traditions and stories.

It is great to see them making their legendary knives in the same manner they have been for a long time.

After watching them sharpen their knives on grinding wheels people probably can relax worrying about using powdered leather belt ...lol

Great video. Does anyone know of any similar type videos on other custom makers? I really enjoy seeing how custom knives are made.

While I don't have one such as was being made in the video, I was able to obtain this piece from David Ruana in 2011 at the Denver Knife show. It is one of my favorites and the Elk antler weight and density is quite unusual as is the technique he uses for the brass with inlay guard.

if you believe everything you read in magazines, you'd think that 'forged tacticals' are a new thing. Obviously this is not the case.
it's only a new marketing term, which means what?

Don and Dave Ruana make some awesome knives.. I have own them all from the Hangas family to Don and Dave Ruana.. Rudky taught them all very well!
What I like about Dave and Don ruana is they go outside the box with some of there stuff where Hangas brothers stick with the traditional...
I wish they still made the HAMMER BOWIE or C-GUARD.. You cant get Ruana company to make custom stuff.. that is a let down
If i was rich i would drop a ton on them all.. Love their stuff!

I am going to buy a good solid smaller blade for hunting season this year. it was very enjoyable making this little film. Thanks for watching..

That's a nice collection, is that a 95B top left? How do you like it? Got one for a friend that retired, seemed like a functional design and felt nice in the hand.

I believe the knife your referring to is a 26 CD. Super awesome skinner. I only purchased one cause I am not crazy about the skinner look (as you can see I am more into the stickers) and I do very little skinning, so most the time I just skin the hide off game with a sticker anyway. The 95 MP is what I think you meant, and they are great knives, I have buddies that swear by them, there are just not my style I guess. Obliviously a lot of people like as they go for astronomical prices on the bay.

You're right, I thought it had the hump of a 95MP. I've handled a few Ruanas new and old and they are impressive. My retired buddy saw a few at an estate sale last year and he couldn't believe what they went for. Now he's even more afraid to use his. I've threatened to break it in for him. Thanks for showing your collection.
