Anyone else have a knife blessed by clergy with holy water? This DDR and my Dalton kerambit have been. I figured this pic would be symbolic. Note the odometer reading.

Do you do it for the novelty factor or is there a specific reason you do it?

I was at a Scottish Games festival and the priest had just delivered a blessing for the event and I asked him on a whim.

I would wonder at the reasoning. A knife, in and of itself, as all are aware, is not good or evil. It can only do what the wielder intends. I can see where one might want to garner a special protection over oneself, but at this point, why not ask for a blessing on yourself? Maybe, as a protection against accidental breakage, or supernatural sanitization, it would have some merit. Of course, I'm no expert, and there may be some special atributes granted by such a blessing. Doesn't hurt to have it done.

I, myself have a large "coin" that has been blessed by the Pope (John Paul II), that I received from my aunt, who happens to have been a Nun, when she received it in Rome. It has no special power, that I'm aware of, but if one has faith, it may be considered "lucky," I guess.

The power of faith shouldn't be laughed at. So, to each his own. I myself believe in the power of prayer. Maybe not over my mundane possessions, but I have had my family and pastor pray over my house, so why not?

I can appreciate that. I guess it can't hurt, can it?

I always just think about God's law as outlined in Deuteronomy 22:26 "If someone is coming to kill you, rise against him and kill him first"

I feel obligated to protect the greatest gift God gave me or my children: Life made with His spark/soul/spirit/et al.

And God commands all to preserve this life, and part of Him, if someone comes to take it from you.

I personally don't require a blessing on an object since I have a commandment from God specifying and absolving my action(s).

FYI, the 613 in my user name refers to the 613 laws of the Torah.
