It is finally done, my first Khukuri. I still have the sheath to finish but people have been more than patient following the long WIP about it so I figured I owed them pics as soon as it was done. I think it came out ok and hopefully the recipient (a good friend) will like it. I know now why these are held in such hi regards. I will definitely be making myself one (although not as fancy) in the future. But not right away, they are a lot of work.

Here are the specs:
Blade length: 13 1/4” OAL: 18 1/2”
Weight: 38 ¾ oz
Grind: Flat (Hollow for the small section facing the spine)
Steel: 5160
Handle: Redwood Burl (Stabilized) and Bovine Ivory (aka cow bone)
Fittings: Brass
Pommel nut: Stainless steel (304)

Thanks for looking.

Holy cow! It's done! Been busy and didn't realize it got finished up. Turned out very nice buddy and I am so glad you stuck with this project. I love it!

Elegant,Patrice, your sense of proportion is amazing! That thing just "flows"so elegantly!I can almost feel the balance of it!I really like the bone shaped cut-outs in the blade and the matching motif on the sheath and even on the frog !

The khuk came out quite nice Patrice. The picture of it apart shows how much work you did.

WELL done!

Peter

Wow Patrice... well executed. I have a feeling you are man of my own heart. No fear of wandering into the unknown where the specter of failure hangs perilously over the head.

I agree Scott, the unknown is where it's at! :D
Of course I long for the day where the techniques themselves won't be as "unknown" as the designs. But then again when pushing the boundaries I guess you always find yourself using and even developing new building techniques. It is time consuming but so rewarding in the end.

Thanks for the good words guys.
