My dad has an old one of these, it really isn't much too look at, but I was holding it the other day and thought it may have potential.
A better handle, some cleaning up the rough shape and making it a little more pleasing to the eye, and dirt cheap, to boot.
Maybe even grind the hammer and pry bar into a couple of spikes.
By itself it would make a great addition the the BOB or trunk of the car, "just in case".

Anybody have one of these? What do you think?
I am going to pick one or two up at Lee valley in the near future and see what ideas I can come up with.

I have two of them. I got them at a farm supply store (Fleet Farm) years ago. Mine have wood handles.I have keep one in my vehicle and one in my storage box on my four-wheeler. While they are interesting I always seem to grab a hatchet or a hammer before I use them. I do remember that they were from the orient somewhere, most likely China and they were cheap, that's how I ended up with two of them.

I'll bet that if I was taking apart wood crates, they might be just the right tool. All in all a handy little tool for the price.

Just my thoughts, Double Ott

I have a really old one, with wooden handles, found in my house when I moved in 15 years ago. It is a very useful tool, being able to do a bit of everything.

I'd call it a solution looking for a problem. Want a hatchet? You've probably got a better one. Want a hammer? You've probably got a better one. Want a ......etc.

To me it's nothing but a gimmick. For a BOB I think a Tommy Axe would be more practical.

I modded one of these sometime ago. Was a old yard sale find, and I was bored. Ground spikes like you were talking about, but found out the metal was really soft (and no, I didn't burn it). If I recall, I got rid of it via ten swings at a rock and destroyed the thing. Not worth your time. Try a roofing hatchet?
