No offense but this completely disturbs me. This child, who is young enough to wear a Mickey Mouse shirt and what appears to be clowns on his pants, has no business being posted on the internet in such an aggressive fashion. I'm affiliated with Virginia Tech and this completely reminds me of Seung-Hui Cho. I'm sure some folks will believe that my post is somehow politically motivated however I'm not a liberal, quite the opposite. I vote with my guns and this reminds me 100% of how that sick individual posted similar photos on the net before committing a treacherous act. Some folks may believe that I’m making this comparison because of this child’s ethnicity however this is incorrect so I’ll address it before the responses allude to this. I’m a father myself and disagree whole heartedly with the photos in this thread. Flame on if you must but it’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it.

really redhat? get a life, that is the drag about the fourums,a bunch of old fuddy duddy's with nothing better to do but complain, rain on

I'm 50 and did stuff like that when I was a kid. It was a kitchen knife though and there was nobody around to take photos and no computers or Internet to post them on. Only person I've ever cut is myself. I wouldn't have posted poses like that myself but I'm not too worried about him becoming Jack the Ripper either. Nice choice with the knife. Love my 311. Hope he gets many years of joy out of it!

Thanks for the pics, Lachine.
That young fella of yours will probably be sleeping with that new knife now. My first one wasn't near as good as that. :d

Great pics Lachine!

Redhat, OMG a child from another country acting just like every other boy that has his first knife. The horror that a boy would act like that. You are seeing stuff that isn't there. Relax and stop pushing your issues onto other people. Just because you interpret something one way doesn't mean thats how it is. Get some help guy. Not everything is out to get you or plotting against you.

If people displaying knifes disturbs you perhaps you have gone to the wrong internet forum.

Great pics, congrats.

Redhat: the VA incident was horrible and has obviously scarred you deeply...so deeply that you are projecting your lingering fears onto others. You should consider PTSD therapy...seriously... before posting adverse comments to a proud father posting innocent pics of his child with a new tool.

... innocent pics of his child with a new tool.

Those aren't pics of a child with a new tool. Showing the boy how to make fuzz sticks, whittle a spoon, baton some wood for kindling, that's a child with a tool. Those pics are of a very young child in a fighting stance, and one that suggests he already has some basic martial arts training. Does this mean he's going to turn into some kind of monster? Of course not. Do I let my eight year old son handle my knives? Yes. However I do think posting such images is irresponsible and inflammatory.

Wow, knives are in fact tools with many purposes beyond fuzz sticks and whittling, including fighting potentially. When did training a child martial arts or taking pictures of them in fighting stances become irresponsible? You obviously are not familiar with either martial arts or the OP. Martial arts training involves extensive practice of both respect and restraint...and from reading prior post by the OP, it is obvious that the boy is also exposed to these values. As to inflammatory, it is not the post, but your perception and response to the post that is inflammatory. How would you like it if you were foolishly judged based on your avatar portraying an animal with a grimacing look wielding a large edged weapon while consuming alcohol? Is that irresponsible and inflammatory? Perhaps...should one perceive it that way and post something on the internet about it? NO.

I wear a Mickey Mouse shirt, and I'm 30 years old. If I could get clown pants that fit, I'd wear those too. As for the last part, well, that's a pretty irresponsible assertion.

Congrats!

I went nuts when my dad gave me my first Swiss Army. Great pics, and I'm thinking my dad might have short-changed me now. (not really...)

Out of curiosity, how did pics of a benchmark in a kids life spark controversy?

Awesome!
Teach them young and you will have less worries later.
