I seem to remember reading that people often remove these, is this wise? Im worried that I might rip or tear the leather. Also, what is the best way to remove it? Its VERY sharp. Thanks.

There was a thread about this fairly recently. Seems like there is agreement that they are pretty sharp and that causes problems, but different ways of dealing with it.

For purely practical use the KMFR sheath is ideal. I use this one when I need to get rid of the bulk and pointy tip of the "standard" sheath, but keep the standard sheath with the brass tips left on. Here's a thread on the KMFR sheath:

Called a "chappe," which is Nepalese for "pointy-thing which sticks you in the thigh."

Little heat, like a blow-dryer, and the adhesive loosens right up, and the chappe slips off to be stored in a secure place. No ripping or tearing involved.

Have fun.

Sorry Kismet, that's a common mistake.

Actually it's from the Old French chape, which means "Pointy think which sticks you in the foot."
