The Braun Series 3

is a flaming pile. For three key reasons:

1) Multi-directional foil my ass! Sometimes it wouldn't shave hairs going the right way.
2) You can't charge it, and shave, at the same time.
3) The foil is too thick to get anything resembling a clean shave.

do not be lured by the ~$80 price tag. Pay the extra 100 for the series 5.

I'm very happy with my series 3 Braun. Close shave? No. If I want a baby smooth shave, that's what the new Gillette Proglide is for. But the Braun is fantastic for those hurried days when I have to shave on the way to work. Also, I'm a headshaver and the Braun series 3 works really well for hitting spots that I missed with the Proglide. It seems silly that I'd get out of the shower just after shaving my head then stand in front of the mirror with an electric razor, but the Braun fits the role perfectly. I always miss spots (particularly above my ears) and the Braun cleans those spots up perfectly. I wouldn't trade the Braun for nuthin. Good product.

I don't argue that the Series 5 isn't a "better" mousetrap, it may well be. It's probably worth the extra bucks. But in my little corner of the world, the Series three is the cat's meow.

If you're not happy with the 3 series then I don't know if you'd like the 5 any better. I've got the 5 and it sounds like you would have the same issues with it.

A blade will always be a better shave but for me, being lazy, an electric is a good compromise. I will say that not being able to charge/shave simultaneously is a non issue for me since I charge/clean the razor every day or two. Initially I didn't like the idea of the cleaning stand but it has grown on me, the razor is always nice and clean and as a bonus it smells like Trix!

I've had the series 5 for a few months. I really like it and it shaves close but not like a razor. After a month or so, your facial hairs adapt and it shaves closer. I haven't used a razor in two months unless I have a very important engagement and I'll pass a razor over dry after using the series 5. Braun has always been an excellent product.
