Check out the handle changes to the Brend Hatchet!

Thanks to valuable customer input, we've applied graceful radiuses to many of the pronounced corners in the handle and at the butt, for improved comfort and better finish quality (no laser wash).

These changes are planned for the next production run.

Enjoy and thanks!

Looks good Andy...and i was just gonna go buy a Bren...2 actually...;)

Those lines look a bit more comfortable...I'll wait till the new production run...

Thanx for the heads up...:D

Lazer wash? What's, that?.....Care and feeding of the finishes on your 'hawks?

Thanks,
Steve

When the laser is cutting the steel, it is in constant motion.

When the laser confronts a corner or sharp turn, it essentially stays in that area of the steel longer than it would on a straight line or radius. When it stays in the same place, deformation can occur, and did occur in small order on some of the sharp corners of the Brend Hatchet from the first production run.

Nothing functionally was compromised, but the crusher pommel for example, was not perfectly straight on some occasions.

Water jet cutting gets around all these problems as well, and we are exploring it as another method nonetheless. However, the redesigned handle was primarily implemented to improve user-comfort and reduce fatigue.

Cool changes on my beloved Brend. I bet even being rounded like that, the skull crusher would still raise a knot;) :D

Andy,
Those are almost the exact changes I made to my 1st production run Brend before I left the boat to come ashore.
I ground down the pommel and lines and then fully wrapped the handle in 550 cord...works extremely well and have used it daily...
I may have to buy a couple more of these new ones just to have for "future" needs...

(either that or have a custom Brend-like hatchet made out of 3/8" stainless...the 1050 is great but in wet conditions (ship's welldeck) it rusts pretty quick...)

take care and glad to see the design "evolving!"

God bless

Roger that Jess...

We also have a potential materials change in the works...same stuff used in the new Marine Corps bayonet. It's supposed to be an excellent material and we are looking at it very closely.

Talk soon and keep fighting the good fight...

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours, daily.
