I recently picked up the ZDP MC featured in this thread:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=550481
As far as I know this knife has belonged to Audiopile, my amigo CL01, and Dave Reb. It started life as any ZDP MC did. Somewhere, it picked up a coating on the handles before CL01 got it. When Dave Reb picked it up he did the refurb detailed in the linked thread, including, a trip to STR for a bead blast.

I got it few weeks ago, and, decided that I couldn't do anything to hurt it. I had it anodized by STR.... Have a look see. I think it turned out good.

It's funny how many hands some of these knives pass though. Feel free to share some stories of well traveled knives in your collection.

PS: anyone know where I can pick up a BLACK MC clip?

I don't have any stories of well traveled knives that I know of, but what I want to know is how did that one get by me?:confused:

I really like Steve's work...is that the denim finish or something else? It looks fantastic!

Sorry I can't help with the black clip...there's a website that sells all of that stuff...can't find the link now, but IIRC, they had a black clip that would fit the MC.

Great story and a great lookin knife!

That is the denim finish. It is very nice in person... it kinda has flashes of navy and purple depending on how the light hits it.

Were there not any Cyclones with black clips?

In a word: No. Even the coated standard models have the same clip...I'll look tomorrow for the link to the place I mentioned earlier. You might be able to find someone locally that could anodize it. Kershaw has the black screws.

You could always have one powder coated if all else fails.
There's plenty of places that do that.

I don't know how I've missed this thread, but...WOW. That sure is puurrddyy. Very nice job on anodizing.

It is funny how knives have a way of bouncing around through several people's hands & sometimes coming back. That's a keeper for sure. IIRC, DaveReb did a bang up job of cleaning it up, but STR sure finished it well.

Looks great with the Denim anodizing!

If Kershaw were to do another run of the Ti handled Mini-Cyclones, it would be great if they had color anodized handles to help differentiate them more easily from the originals.

Very nice Spiral:thumbup: It looks great. Steve has a way with customizing, doesn't he?

I don't have any stories about Kershaws traveling around, but I just today got an old Wester Cutlery skinner that's about 65 years old. An acquaintance of mine is on his way out of this world and has nobody left. The knife was given to hime by his father and it's the knife he used to skin his very first 6 point buck when he was about 13. He didn't want it to end up in a landfill and so he told me to take care of it. He got me all misty and stuff, because I know how much living this knife has seen.

Cheers,
Jonny

I have been justifiably accused of possessing a Kalashnikov aesthetic. Before CL01 got it - I had:
1.) punched out the thumbstud
2.) baked black enamel onto the clip
3.) baked black enamel onto the handles.
4.) replaced the torsion bar ( the only reasonable thing I did to it)
5.) removed the auto on/off roller.
6.) used it a bit.
Please note -paint made it black -but was full of ripples and lumps.
I'm not sure whether to call this a frame up restoration or a Laserius (spl.d so creatively the spl chk can't figure it out) event.Beautiful.
