The Buck 112 Ranger reviewed.

Nice review. They were and I guess still are built like a tank. Good work knife and will always work well for an anchor in your pocket. The two I have are still very solid knives after 20+ yrs. and still lock up very tight.

Nice review!

I don't recall the pocket knife restrictions the USN had in 69-72, when I was in. I recall a big folder - and always wanting a bosun's rigging knife - they looked cool - but I was an Electronics Tech (Communications), so a simple folder sufficed. I never saw sailors' fight - on board or off - with anything but fists - and that was seldom - usually, they were buying each other beers on the next liberty. I can't imagine knives between shipmates... Of course, I remember a CPO or two many wanted to 'float-test'.

Anyhow, I always wanted a shorter 110 - finally got a current production fg-ed 112 a year or two back - nice size - fg's are nicely sized and placed for a good grip in my medium plus sized hands. I would rather have the old ebony wood scales, but the laminated rosewood is more dimensionally stabile - nearly weatherproof. I feel the Paul Bos heat treatment on the current 420HC they use is the key - makes a great user - long lasting edge easily renewed. The current fare isn't so bad, either! My biggest gripe? I like nickel silver. The little Buck 503 'Prince' is a nice smaller knife - and it has nickel silver bolsters. As I don't use the 110's sheath, I don't use the 112's, either. I'd just like to see other blade materials, the nickel silver bolsters, and a bit wider availability. Nice size!
