i had john make a blade for me, from a design that i drew up, refined and finally sent out in cardboard. he did an excellent job executing my vision. i wanted something that would make a good 'ole all around user, a point for piercing, but a belly for slicing - something that you wouldn't be afraid to beat on if you had to, something that could handle "regular" cutting chores too. i camp often and i wanted a blade that would handle my abuse. :)

although i haven't had a chance to "abuse" this knife yet (soon though), it's seen super tactical kitchen duty :P, but man oh man, is it really comfortable to hold. the thumb ramp and integrated guard/choil are strategically placed so that they fall in line with your natural position while gripping. the contouring and overall width of the handle was done specifically to my request - as you see i have small hands and skinny fingers. this handle was designed for my hand, but i'm sure john could beef it up for people with larger hands. most of john's knives have always been too "big handled for me", but this one is perfect. let me say, that this is one of the most comfy knives i've held. no hot spots what so ever. i've only had a glimpse of her capabilities and i can't wait to get out in the woods to see what else she can do.

all in all, i should think that anyone could benefit from this blade. i think it would be awesome in 1/8" (mine is in 5/32") and in some wood handles. i believe it would suit a hunter very, very well. or any outdoorsman for sure. my only wish is that john will someday experiment with stainless, as i would order one of these in a high end stainless in a heartbeat. enough of my rambling, on to the pics.

who it's named after, my american bulldog mix :) :

looks great, thanks for the impressions, I expect to see some more of these soon, it looks damn good :)

The grip is very comfortable, but for me I would leave the handle thicker, I ground them down a lot to meet the specs.

Hmm,looks pert near perfect to me.
Given the hight to thickness ratio you won't have to worry about it rolling in your hand during use.
Grats Taylor.

Very nice!!

Thanks for taking time to post your impressions once you got your knife.

I can tell you, it is a great moment when you get your own design from John - nothing like seeing your own vision crafted into reality!

best

John you're obviously a talented knife-maker, but your ability to take a drawn or sketched design to the Steel and Wood stage is amazing.!..
