The Caly3 is making my other 15 or so knives redundent.

I keep wanting to rotate my knife-of-the-day, but I keep on grabbing the caly3.

My Buck Mayo TNT, Spyderco; UKPenknife, R2, Calypso jr grey vg10, Calypso jr ZDP-189, Delica ZDP-189, Ying/Yang ss Cricket, Merlins, micarta mini dyad, etc. are starting to collect dust.

I am starting to think that this will only change when I get my hot little hands on the upcoming Carbon-fiber Caly3 with zdp-189 & the forest green zdp-189 serrated Delica & the zdp-189 Lum & the Micro Dyad.

Do you see a pattern here?
I REALLY like zdp-189 & FULL flat ground blades & handles with liners for rigidity.
The ONLY exception to full flat ground blades will be a serrated Delica in zdp-189.

Yup, the same with me:D

My Caly III/SE kicked my favourite EDC for 3 months, the D3/SE, right out of my pocket;)

I too really am fond of the Caly3. I have been carrying the Para for several months now and it has been displaced. The new Caly3 is just such a great size and an awesome little knife. The new one with the Carbon-fiber Caly3 with zdp-189 will be sweet. Isn't the Caly3 pretty much just like the UKPK except the back lock and the S30V steel?
The Caly3 is pretty much the perfect knife for me. I do wish that it was S30V steel, but I am very happy with the VG-10!

The Caly 3 has liners, the UK does not.

I hope that the carbon fiber zdp-189 blade is swappable with that of the vg10Caly3 - as I like the G10 handle for everyday use, but with zdp.

I hope it will be a solid zdp - not laminated like the calypso jr zdp.

Time will tell. I would think that the sizes would all be the same to save production costs.

That would be my thinking, but they might have to buy the zdp stock with slightly different thicknesses.

But I agree, the logic "should" follow to make everything interchangable - like the calypso jr ltwt - first with black handle with vg10, then grey handle with vg10, then red handles with laminated zdp-189.

This next time just substitute solid zdp-189 & royal blue handle like that on the 93mm rescue.

The same can be said for the Caly3 just sub in solid zdp-189.

Sal has said on the other Spyderco forum that the ZDP-189 Caly 3 blade will be laminated. The contractor they are using doesn't have a laser, which is necessary to cut solid ZDP-189 blanks.

I would prefer solid ZDP-189 myself, but it's still gonna be one heckuva knife.

I had a feeling this knife would put a cap over the 3inch EDC catagory. It really is perfect for it's application.

I'm hoping to get a Caly 3 up here soon - it's going to REALLY be interesting to see if it can displace my Delica 4:) It (D4) displaced the Delica 3. Between these, I've purchased quite a few and the BM Mini-Grip was close enough that I carry both constantly. I also own four Delica 4's, so it'll be neat to get a Caly 3 to try. I have two Caly Jr's and despite the fact that they can out slice my D4's, they just don't stay in my pocket as much as my D4. D4, for some reason, like my Mini-Grip, just handle the things I do better. That's me, though.

I am looking forward to see what you think. For me, Caly3 easily displaces the D4. But I have been carrying the Para for several months now and although I really like it(!!) my preference is for a tip up knive. I love the Caly3!!

I have heard that only the Delicas & Enduras will be in SOLID zdp-189.

I got this from a reliable source, in a private email, who will remain nameless. I will respect their privacy as they might not like me quoting them directly.
