My cherished Villager Utility Knife has been missing since the 4th of July. Been driving me crazy ever since till today. He generally hung on a sling in Pugs beautiful sheath by the shop door. The sheath is still there but no knife.
We had a large gathering of folks as we usually do, kind of BBQ, hang out. The youngsters in the bunch built a fire in our outdoor fire pit, to sit around and wait for the boom boom's. I don't really like the boom booms, my horses don't care for them and my mini-Schnauzer absolutely hate them. She starts trembling I think about the end of June.
Anyhow in the search for my knife, I contacted my son and his friends. They recalled using the knife to make kindling and remembered it in a plastic tote. I checked all the totes and everyplace without results.
Well today my wife decided to clean out the outdoor fire pit and lo and behold the mystery is solved. I just yesterday got out a mint Tamang I was gonna use for making kindling this winter and guess I'll have too.
We figure at some point they just dumped the tote into the fire and didn't see the knife?

Bet the temper is messed up. -)
Probably one of the knife makers could resurrect that blade, maybe just needs to be heat treated. Bolster and buttcap might be repolished. Making handles for the rat-tail tang can be a major pain, though.
Sorry for your loss.

I've made handles and your right, they are a pain, I don't know how they do them so well over in Nepal.

I'll probably just clean it up and hang it on the wall, I agree the temper is probably toast.

I'll use my Tamang until I maybe grab another VUK. Need something to fit the beautiful Pugs sheath.

The lesson here is that people shouldn't burn plastic in a fire. It smells bad and is bad for you and your knives.

I don't think they burned the plastic tote, just dumped the contents which included my most used Kukri.

It aint bit no dust brother. Its getting cooler down here in Texas and I bet I know somebody that could fix it back up for ya! What kinda wood ya like?

Thanks to a fellow member here I have an exact duplicate replacement. Even fits my beautiful Pugs sheath like it was made for it. I might just hang it on the wall as a keepsake. Do appreciate the offer and know it would be in more than capable hands.
