Hi Sal and Spyderco fans.

I would love to have a flipper frame-lock from Spyderco.
I think the chokwe would be best.

Good luck.

Correct me guys if I'm wrong, I believe Sal has said on this forum that he has no interest in producing flippers/spring assisted knives. I think he even recommended Kershaw? Welcome to the forum. Hope this helps

you are correct on the assisted opening part, Ken Onion approached spyderco first with his speedsafe and they turned him down because they like the opening hole. i would have to agree with spyderco :D

The round hole is great and I love it. I think Spyderco should not stop there though.
I believe the flipper would be the next big thing. They are so addictive and easy to use.

Spring assisted is another thing. I dont like spring assisted.

The Chokwe dosen't need a flipper, because it is a folding replica of a fixed blade knife, but Spyderco could use a few flipper knives. Adding a flipper is just another option like the waved Endura. I'd love a flipper Spyderco and I'd also like a drilled and tapped wave peg as an option on all Spydercos.

IMO the flipper is the best opening methed out there.
Sorry.:o
The hole is great opening method, but it's also the only thing wrong with the Military. When cutting deep into stuff the hole snags on the material being cut. At worst it can get stuck.
The best design has no holes or studs (unless they double as the stop pin), just a smooth clean cutting blade.

I cant say I like flippers. Sorry but no for me & I think Sal feels the same concerning the direction of Spyderco.

Uhm, WHY are you posting in the SPYDERCO section then?
They obviously aren't ideal for you, judging by your criteria.

Here's the scoop, Kershaw does flippers, Spyderco does holes. I like it that way, no fuss no muss. :p

I think it would be cool if spyderco and kershaw did a collaboration like the spyker again, but this time give it a leaf shaped blade, and a flipper, with no assist.

Spyderco needs to stick with holes. Flippers, AO,all that crap can be misconstrued as an "auto". The flipper is a button and the blade flys out. I LOVE spyderco for their hole, kershaw can keep the flipper as far as im concerned

Spyderhole opener is 100% reliable when used properly. Can't say that for a flipper. Plus, a flipper represents one more way the blade can get partially opened in your pocket. Figure I don't have anything to worry about. Don't think even Sal's fertile imagination could figure a way to put a flipper on a mid lock and those are about all I carry. :D

SOG actually did just that, I think it was on the Twitch?

Regarding the original topic, I have no interest in AO, flippers, studs etc. on a Spyderco. Opening holes are perfect as they are.

What about the Smallfly? No hole, and the stop pin is in the blade. All they'd have to do is remove one handle, give it a liner lock and a flipper, then shape it like the Military!
I guess using a similar Spyderhole to the fixed blades and autos wouldn't be a bad idea either (that is to say, keep the hole small and out of the way).
