A quote from the email i just sent to John: "Holy Schmokes!" that about sums it up for me. as some of you know, i sent John a design/cutout a little while ago for Camp-y type knife. And, here is what arrived today....

Thanks very much John. It's great. As you can see in the pics, i have some materials on hand. my goal is to finish this one up, so i can bring it with me to the gathering.

[EDIT] I will probably end up taking pics as i go. Yup...another WIP.

Wow, that is a serious piece of O-1. Looks great! For some reason I think of Buffalo Hunter when i see that blade shape.

What I liked about this one is that it is light, only 1/8" thick, and the fact that it would make a great food prep knife.

Thanks Curth. and, Chuckwagon just came to me. was trying to think of something related to food prep and work on the trail. BUT...it is rather hokey, so it may be subject to change. ;)

Please do post WIP photos, I enjoy them!

thanks John. and please forgive me for not mentioning above...guys...the grind on this is just awesome. can't wait to try it out.

I am thinking "The Hoss" a la Gunsmoke........he could down a plate of beans or 6!

Seriously though...great blade, looking forward to your pics!

thanks Sean. did you mean Hoss from Bonanza? loved that show growing up.

switching gears....i just couldn't wait to check out this grind. this is the sharpest JK i've received (and that's saying something). i had to let it help out with leftovers. this thing jumped through the steak. and, i could not believe how it glided through the tomatoes. seriously. super-impressed John.

Yup.....wrong show! Can't believe I mixed those up.....

Also a big fan of Daniel Boone and The Rifleman.....after school classics

Great knife, didn't mean to take the train off the tracks

no, please do. i am a big fan of westerns. my favorite author is Louis L'Amour. The Rifleman was another one of my favorites. used to watch it with my dad. Chuck Connors.

I loved the opening for The Rifleman, that show totally contributed to my love of things that go boom.

I also liked Wild Wild West and Ba Ba Blacksheep, since the train is now in the gorge. :)

Love to see your new creation in person!

I still watch The Rifleman every afternoon, two episodes back to back. Never cared for Bonanza. Everytime one of those guys hooked up with a girl, you knew for sure that by the time the show ended, she would die from something. Now, if you want to talk classic TV, Seargent Preston Of The Yukon, my favorite!

hope i can pull it off. i am gluing up the scales now. and, i'm a bit concerned how they are going to turn out. flubbed putting on the epoxy a bit. i'm not very smooth tonight. here's to hoping i can post up some more pics tomorrow.

Hmmm. never heard of that one. probably wasn't syndicated where i was at. but, now i'm curious. i am going to have to look for it.

Nice design! Looks like a great slicer!

the scales are glued up, and yup...there are a couple gaps on the ends. i'm just hoping that there won't be toward the center once i cut them out.

BUT...do you ever buy special wood for a special knife, get it all ready to go, and then look at it with the knife and say, "You know what?...I'm not sure i like it that much." i don't know. i went with Rosewood burl (had a good looking pattern), but i should have stuck with the desert ironwood...i like a reddish hue in my handles. and, this is...well...too browny.

i am going to go sand it a bit to see what it looks like. i will then decide if i want to go to plan B.

i really screwed the pooch here. i decided i liked the wood. looks good. the problem is that i "tapped" the pins in to finish cutting/sanding the blade end of the handle. well, apparently...i forced them in there too much. i knew that at least one of holes was a bit "off." i can't get them out. then, rather than tapping, i started pounding. looks like a put a hairline crack in the handle. plus, i still can't get them out. not smart.

i need to somehow find a better way to drill level holes. on to plan B. i have a feeling this may mean i'm not going to have this finished for the gathering. such a bummer.
