So, as I was posting the recent treasures back from Glenn, the mail slot in our front door emitted its tinny clang!
My amble to the door was rewarded by a package from Sheffield, a suspiciously large one!! I thought there might be a knife coming, but there was so much more in that double envelope!
Oh My!!

>A DVD re: Stan Shaw - can't wait!
>A postcard showing a little shop that sells delicious-sounding food including eels! I can almost smell the pies! Interesting barrel in front of the store - hmmmm...

Thanks Jack Black!

I'm glad they arrived Charlie, I think the Royal Mail must have invested in some younger carrier-pigeons! ;) :D Hope you enjoy the DVD :)

Wonderful!! The fish knife is divine as is the Petty!! Why did you call it a Crown jack? Lovely handle on that Lamb:D And video of Stan at work:eek:

Very very nice Jack:thumbup:

Charlie, karma back at you for all your generosity, enjoy:thumbup:;)

Very nice guys!!!

Very nice gifts.

...barbecued eel sushi (unagi) is not bad. I never had jellied eel though. On the property that I rented in Maine, freshwater emptied into salt water and that is a prime location to catch elvers (baby eels). Late one night I heard a lot of commotion and found folks setting up fyke nets and lights. :D

That pressed stag/horn jack is amazing. Great presents, Jack!

Bernie Levine refers to that pattern as a Crown Jack, Gev. I learned it from him!

Awesome - I had the pleasure of viewing a few of Jacks Treasures in Charlies House- that was VERY cool to see.

Years ago, in working-class areas of London, 'Pie 'n' Mash' shops were ubiquitous. They specialised in meat pies, served with mashed potatoes, and 'liqour' (a vinegar-rich mint sauce). Their other speciality was jellied-eels.

Both dishes are very London specific, and as a Northerner, I didn't come across these places until I was an adult, and neither dish appealed to me. I doubt there are many of these cafes left today as most of the old working-class London areas have been gentrified, and tastes have changed.

That is nice Duncan :) :)

It's a real treat to be able to send Charlie something, he has been very generous to me, and to many of us here, and a great friend :)

Seeing this Thread, has made me eager to try and take some photos, I managed to score a nice fish knife as well - unfortunately the handle did not turn out to be Ivory ( which I thought it was in the very poor photo ) - but still a nice wee piece, I also manged to grab a nice Corkscrew at a Antique shop with Mr. Paul Hilborn and Paul's fantastic friend Jeff, so I need to update Charlies other thread that contains all of that stuff!

I was viewing Charlies Camillus Framed selection of nice Cammies - and I spotted a gap - now I sort-of knew that I had the knife at home!
Now - I was telling Paul about the knife because its honestly one of Favourites because of the awesome DEEP stamping on the Sabre ground blade - and Paul said- "didnt you buy that of me"? - and it turns out I did some years ago - when Paul and I actually exchanged money for knives lol.
So Charlie Sir - I havent forgotten- gee it would turn out great if (?) it was right for that spot - no pressure Charlie - you may not think it will slot in - so lets see.

Its a very bleak grey day outside- NOTHING like the weather Canada and America treated Sue and I.....so I feel myself sliding into a depression because its Grey, I have to start work again ........Oh Boy...:(

:)

Nice thought Duncan :) It's been all grey skies here recently too - some summer! Have a good weekend pal
