There are many like it, but this 9ers mine!
I recently purchased the basic 9, I have had it out a few times now, just general batoning and chopping, more batoning than not. What a nice config, I cant say enough about it so far. I had been using a 1095 - 6 ½ micarta handled 3/16 full tang. I have beaten the hell out of it over the last few years though, nice knife would recommend it to anyone. But does chip and roll when processing hard wood.
The 9er hands down, beats it with flying colors. I attached some pics so you could see the wood I was working with. Hard wood with large knots, she goes through it with ease. I purposely went right through the knot to see how she would take it. No more than five whacks, it was done. The Res-C handle is great. Today here is was about 30 degrees, a little rain/hail, I wasn't wearing gloves. No hot spots, vibration is virtually nothing, in colder weather like it is here in the northeast, the handle felt warm, process time for kindling is cut in half easy. I understand the knife I was using was smaller, so was the wood
For me you cant beat a 9er with an asym edge. This thing goes right through the wood, Im surprised what little effort is needed. Chopping is the same, I had found some dead fall next door, I guess the diameter was 4. I should have counted how many chops it took, it wasn't many at all, chips were flying. I checked out the edge when I was finished messing around. I dont even have to touch it up, she still makes clean cuts in newspaper, little curls, and some hair, you cant tell it was used. I go bumming around the woods a lot, I have found my new light weight heavy duty carry all knife. Im really loving this knife, until the next purchase
Thanks to all who have contributed their experiences, especially the 9, if it wasn't for your input, and this form, I couldn't have made this decision.
Busses Rock !!
