Frigg'n awesome Lon! Congratulations!!!

I love my new shop, but if I were building it from the ground up I would have went with a few different features that I see you are putting in, like the scissor trusses and the extra tall door opening. Love those extra big windows too!

Very exciting stuff Lon!!! :D

Movin dirt; great to hear brother. You'll be heading into winter under roof in your new shop. Doesn't get any better.

the footer for the hammer i dug this today and that ground is HARD!!!

Nick i had a long time working in my current shop aka dungeon no light hard to get large equipment in and out of i just hope im allowing myself enough room although i dont think you can ever have enough shop space it is very exciting but nerve wracking at the same time

yes i am excited to get the shop moved and out of the city, I'm looking forward to being able to forge when ever i want too and not be restricted by the hours the city has imposed on me. i get to run my hammer 18 hours a month 9 hours every other week. Talk about a nightmare for doing the customs that's why i have been banging out the brutes like i have been, quick easy to do and they sell very well.
im excyted that in a few weeks ill be set up in the new shop and the first thing im going to do is make a couple of billets of Damascus. first a ring for Cassie (shhhh shes not on this site so i can tell my plans) then a multi bar bowie. see with the restrictions i haven't been able to make a high end knife since march. I'm SOOOOOOO looking forward to doing a big beautiful damascus bowie

Thank you for all the kind words and all of the support from the knife community, with out the knife community this shop would have never happened at all

Did the contractors at least start the hammer hole for you with their auger?!? Watching the fella with the shovel in the first video, the ground sure does look hard.

The hours that were imposed on you is crazy... glad to hear you're getting away from that!

Amazing how fast those guys are putting that shop together.

the floor is done today

Awesome Shop.
Thanks for sharing the video
Much Respect.

im going to start the inside electrical this week and put up a wall for the finish shop after i get one last batch out. The move time is coming i just hope the transmission holds out in the Dodge for the pull up the big hill with the hammer and the press

Lon, how did your former city come up with that weird schedule? I would think that you can either hammer in your old hood or you can't.

it was DICTATED to me by the zoning board of appeals after my neighbor complained about the banging noise in my shop during daylight hours. i might add that i ran the hammer after i dropped my daughter off at school so it wasn't like i was out there at midnight working and i would run it the same hours that i do now and the hammer has been in the shop for 7 years i could go on a rant here but im not going to im saving that for city council along with the mayor and the chief of police ive had many issues with this guy over the years

well at first they wanted me to run the hammer 3 hours a day for 3 days a week (yeah i could get a lot done in 3 hours) the ZBA actually came to my house and listened to the hammer, they all agreed it really wasent that bad but they just could not allow me to disturb anyone. i guess the crack house up the street doesn't disturb anyone

so i went to the final ZBA meeting with my council woman and a council man at large and i got the hours that i wanted and needed... like i said i could rant but just not yet im not in the new shop yet. trust me im going to be raising a lot of hell down at city hall when the move is done

Love the shop. Hate the zoning board. You will never have enough room, because nobody ever does. It gets filled up so fast, buy you will have a great shop to work in.

I've heard that the spray on foam insulation makes a good sound deadener, as well as an air tight insulation material. Might be something to consider if you haven't already. I think there are several simple things that will lessen the sound of your hammer such that nobody will bother you in the future. I'm sure several people here can offer more suggestions.

im sure that if anyone "bothers me" it will go very bad for them. the shop sits on 114 acres and is 500 feet back into the woods so noise is not going to be a issue at the new location
