I had purchased a 2" thick slice of a stabilized birch burl trunk about 10 years ago. I've been using it over the years on knife handles. When I started out the trunk slice was about 1.5' by 2' with the barky burl on the outside ring of it. I was trying to come up with a unique handle for the drop point hunter I was working on, and while looking at some of the birch burl that was cut into handle size pieces, I realized that I could leave the barky, gnarly stuff at the back of the handle. This is what I came up with!
4" blade length forged from a 52100 ball bearing. Brass guard and the aforementioned birch burl with one mosaic pin through the hidden tang.
I made this knife for a friend who got me a 4-1/2 foot diameter wrought iron wagon wheel.
I took the photos late at night, kind of quickly. I'll be taking better photos tomorrow with my light box and tripod.
I hope you enjoy what I came up with.
