Well I have the coins and am really ready to buy a coote as my first grinder, I have a 1.5hp 1745rpm tefc motor already. I am in a quandry over which contact wheel to buy, the 8" or 10". Can anyone help me? I want to learn hollow grinding as well as do flat grinds. Thanks in advance! :)

Tarl, I have one with a 10" get the 8" more versatile
be sure to get a 1" as well you won't be sorry.

I also have the 10 inch and kinda wish I had gotten the 8 inch. You can get both, you know, and just change them out.

Well, I wouldn't give up my 10 inch for anything; next I'm getting a 14, and I've made a 2.5-ft radius platen for those blades that need just the slightest hollow...

See? You can't go wrong. :D

Coote will set it up for BOTH for just a few $ more, if any. That would.IMO, be the way to go.
I only use an 8" wheel on very small knives, the false edges on larger knives, and for grinding the hollow in tangs preperatory to tapering them, but do use it.

Thanks for all the recomendations, I may ask Norm if he can set it up with both 8" & 10", I have an interest in Bowie forms so the 10" may come in handy!
