Was doing some spring cleaning and found a 1983 Price Guide. Here's what some Buck knives cost back then -

110 Folding Hunter (Ebony Wood Handle) $35.00
112 Ranger (Ebony Wood Handle) $33.00
303 Cadet (Black Delrin Handle) $21.00

As a point of comparison

Median Household Income: $20,885.00
Cost of a first-class stamp: $0.20
Cost of a gallon of regular gas: $1.24

Pretty amazing.

WOW now gas prices have over doubled and stamps are almost twice the price!
Thank God the knives didnt go up that much!!!!!
Although I would rather spend double on a knife than a gallon of gas :D

welllll my age will show but -
when i bought my first folding hunter in '67
i paid 12$ or so,,, msrp was 16
i made 2$ an hr as electricans helper
gas could be got for 18 cents a gal on a gas war and 20 cents for hess..
so it took 6 hrs to buy that knife
today as elect i got 20+ and hr and gas is 3+ a gal ...
so an equlivent would be 200+ and 300+ respectfuly..
so you tell me has the cost of a buck gone up or down...
ans as a side
min wage was 90cents an hr and now it is 5.75
humm that was 12 hrs for a buck vs 6 hrs or so now at wally world
or 10 hrs agt msrp
all depends on how you look at things...

I guess to compare apples to apples you would need to look at today's List prices (as opposed to the going "fair market" cost) -

110 Folding Hunter $59.00
112 Ranger $56.00
303 Cadet $36.00

Still not quite doubled though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still USA made :)
