Well, I plan to head out to Louisville Ky on the 18th. This is the long anticipated Knifemakers Guild show. So far in the process, they have accepted my applicatiion, which I filed last year on returning from the show. That was also when I started focusing on tapering tangs. Most of the advice I got while walking around that weekend was about tapering tangs, so I decided to focus on it and force myself to get good at it. Well, one year later, I've tapered at least 500 knives of the 800 or so we made last year, and I feel confident at that step now.

I have to show the board 5 knives. The work has to have been done by my hands 100%. This morning I am taking 8 blades out of the tempering oven and will be starting the process this week. I will post pics of the blades once I have them cleaned up today. I will also be selecting, cutting and preparing the handle materials. (I will also be doing this same work to a regular 20 piece batch of knives which the crew and I will complete on Friday.)

I'll post pics as I go. I'm very excited about this.

If anyone is close to KY, or just wants to spend a knife weekend, this is a very nice venue. Fun and interesting. Even non-knife wives will love this venue. So, please, come out to the show.

Well it sucks that I can't go...Louisville is even farther way from me now than it was. But I look forward to the pics and hope all the best for you man!

Congrats Mr Roy. I'm excited for you that they have already accepted your app and I'm proud to have been along for the journey, getting to see your work improve, even though its at a distance. Your obvious talent and ability to accept a challenge head on (tapered tangs) makes Fiddleback Forge stand alone. This years knives have especially been impressive.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

This is the year to buy a Fiddleback!

The Guild will be better for having you a part of it. Tapering 500 tangs in a year....sheesh. I won't do that many in my lifetime. They sure do make your knives feel good!

Congratulations on the acceptance, I'm sure you're gonna blow them away!

Outstanding !!! My neck of the woods... Post the details on the location. And Congratulations!!

Pressure's on Andy. Next week.......couple more rounds of inspect/clean/inspect/wax/inspect/clean again........
See you up there.
I get juried in for full membership this go round and they've already seen my "good" stuff. Hope they don't expect too much improvement.
Rumor has it the Georgia contention will outnumber other state's rep'd for the third straight year. Maybe we can get another GA boy on the board this year.

Yea. I nominate you. Haha. Your knives are already done? Man, I'm jealous. I took these pics an hour ago. The three pics are ready for drilling, then, drilled, then back away and see what else has to get done this week.

Sweet! Two bushfingers!

LOL, yeah, and two Sneaky Petes! Looking a little biased to me :) I am eyeing that shank, I soooo need to get one of those for Lisa and give it to her with a nice set of garters and hose for Valentines day ;)

There are completed Bushfingers going to that show that you have not seen yet as well. Something curley cued maybe.

No thanks on the nomination.....I don't look good in a burgandy blazer. Besides. I don't like all the traveling they have to do.

You know me, always got a case or two of knives ready. Don't stress too much, your work will pass with no problem. See you soon.
