The CQC-14 is OUT!

Cool, thanks for the info. But my preference is the largest blade that will fit in the handle though. But to my understanding, this was made to have a blade legal in most states that still has a full sized handle.

States like Michigan and Illinois, as well as many major cities in the US have max 3" limits to blade length for knives so this is a big thing for a lot of folks. I know many guys, both hard core Emerson fans and some guys that have never owned and EKI knife before that have been waiting for this folder to hit the market. Besides being a big thing to those that wanted an Emerson but could never justify it due to legal reasons there are many like myself that know they never need much blade to do the job anyway and prefer a smaller blade over something less sheeple friendly.

I've ordered one of these myself from Ernie and look forward to running it through my EDC routine. Besides that a very close friend of mine is responsible for suggesting this to Ernie in the first place and it means a lot to me that he was involved in it.

I think the 14 will be a big hit. Time will tell though. I've always loved the idea of the big handle small blade thing. Spyderco has done it very well also in the Dodo and Para Military, Yojimbo and others. If nothing else this CQC14 folder is pretty darn good looking IMO.

i saw one of these at the plaza cutlery show, although it was a custom. actually a very usable knife. the look is a little strange because the handle is so much longer than the blade, but in the hand it feels great and the stubby blade is very practical.

I think it's cool. If/when the price drops, after the first production run, I may pick one up. Perfect road trip pocketknife, for when you're not sure of the laws wherever you might be.

If you want a low serial number of what's going to be the industries most influential knife, I'd pick one up now.

How do they figure that? Do they think the entire world is going to restrict blade length to sub-3"? Or do they think tiny blades in full sized handles will be the next big fad?

This knife is definately hot. The perfect thing when you don't know the knife laws where you're traveling. I'm a huge Emerson fan for many years now and this is one that without question will be in my pocket very soon. Pics up at www.emersonknives.com

kinda like how they say "#1 hard use knives in the world"

everybody likes to talk their stuff up :foot:

You have to remember that Ernie is one of those that took the brunt of punishment from that Wal Street journal article. He is also very 'international' and sees a perspective of worldwide trends more than your average joe, particularly those trends that involve tactical type knives. I think its safe to say that its the good thing knife lovers are coming together in an organized way to prepare for the fight we will have ahead of us in the future here in our own country. I used to shop pawn shops in Memphis TN looking for knives everytime we went to visit my wife's folks. Now they tell you that they are no longer allowed to even sell knives of anykind there. Thats what I was told. So apparently cities are making changes and it won't stop.

Emerson has a reputation for being a trend setter. I don't doubt that his perspective is spot on with this knife. Besides I think he hears a lot of input at the shows and other places he goes from those that had wished to be able to carry their EKI knife legally where they lived. He is also a good listener so I'm sure that feedback he recieved after Harry suggested this knife was the catalyst that sparked interest in this kind of large handle shorter blade concept to even be made in the first place.

I normally shy away from liner locks altogether anymore but I jumped right to it when this one hit the market. I have a feeling I'll be carrying it regularly too because I have learned that you can trust Ernie's locks. He doesn't make crap and his warranty is second to none.

What "punishment"?

1) That was a stupid article to begin with, full of bitching and whining. It had no nudity or celebrity gossip.
2) Most people don't read WSJ.
3) The average attention span is less than 30 minutes.

Um, the WSJ is widely read by many many people. Also, knife manufacturers everywhere heard the repurcussions of this 'stupid' article both in emails from the sheeple complaining and via the telephone with the same kind of complaints and concerns going on.

I agree the article was one of little merit to most of us, but many folks took it quite serious. It caused quite a stink in this industry for most that make or manufacture cutlery and actually was the catalyst that helped form the USKTA.

#1 hard use knife in the world? maybe, but still a cool slogan. i do know that ernie sells a ton of knives and is very open to input. at the plaza show i asked him about the 14, he said he designed it at the request of a person (or people) who liked the large handle, but had legal restrictions on blade length where they live.
they are not my favorite knives, but i have several, and carry two on duty. i have not seen the wsj article.

It says "Conventional V Grind"... Does that mean that it's REALLY a conventional V grind, or a traditional Emerson V grind, ie like the Cqc7a or the cqc10?

its emersons interpretation of a conventional "V" grind which is not my idea of one, its like a CQC8 for example, not like a spyderco delica.

not that thats bad mind ya,

There's always the mini CQC7 which is just under 3". That's my daily carry here outside of Chicago.
