Listen I have been on kind of a EKI/BM trading/buying streak as of late. I have picked up a nib BM 970 BT pse, a Super 7 pe, a mini 7b BT pe, a 7a BT pe, and 7b HC pe and a 11 BT pe. Also a couple of 14's both pe and a low serial # pse. Can't tell I like EKI's right?:jerkit: Ya ya I know.

Anyways what I want to say is this. Out of all of them even ones I owned from before this streak of madness, the 14 is without a doubt is imho the finest prod. EKI made today. The handle ergo's are perfect for me. The blade is more than big enough to do what I want it to do and the lock up is superb.

Now with all this being said here is what I would like to see. That is a Super 14. Maybe a 3.75-4" blade with a framelock or with the liner lock and offered waved and non waved. I think the with this blade configuration and the sharpness of this blade out of the box one couldn't ask for a better folder except one size bigger. Even keep the handle length the same just a longer blade for those of us able to carry one. What a perfect blade shape for edc. Great for general cutting duties and of course for all the blade martialists out there a great s.d. design too me thinks. Anyways just wanted to voice my opinion and hopefully some day down the road we'll see a super 14 just because! keepem sharp

Longbow. You can ask Ernie about the bigger design. I agree with you but, as you know, you are deal'n with a guy who seldom budges. Give it a try. Never hurts to ask. Good luck!

The whole point of the 14 is that some places have 3" rules...like LA County where Emerson is based. I can however, see how you would want a longer one if you like the ergos of the handle.....

Yep I understand the point of the under 3" blade but I'll tell ya that is such a nice and well thought out design and ergonomically perfect for me that because I can carry a longer folder the 4" or slightly smaller version would probably be the be all and end all edc for me. keepem sharp

The handle of the 14 is by far my favorite in the Emerson line as well. I once took a SARK blade out and swapped it in the CQC14 handle just to see what would happen and I must admit I got a bit excited at first because it actually locked up but the lock was traveling a bit far across the tang for my comfort zone even though it locked up fine and the point of the blade stuck out a tad but man it was close!

I think it could work though and I've been toying with the idea to redo the next SARK which is my own, by copying the 14 handle and using that for the frame lock pattern instead of the SARK handle. Problem is I love the 14,blade too though. I like the MUDD knife blade by Zero Tolerance also and it reminds me of the 14 blade in many ways. I also wanted a good travel companion for going cross state lines because what I can carry legally here is not often times accepted elsewhere, (like Illinois for example but don't get me started)

I've always liked the SARK also but felt the handle was never quite right for me. I think the SARK in the 14 ergos would take on a whole new usefulness and attraction for me though.

I've owned five 14s and I've never owned five Emerson anything before it came out. Of course the fact that my best friend was the genius behind getting Ernie to do it and sharing the idea with him helped it win my favor but I can say I'd have bought it anyway. The handle makes it worth the purchase but it actually works like a much bigger blade thanks to that handle I think. I've forwarded the link to this thread to my friend. It will make his day to learn that a knife he contributed to designing is someone elses favorite.

Yep without a doubt the 14 is the knife I will carry the most. Like I said I own alot of different folders. No more customs though but better prod. knives. Out of the over doz. or so I own the 14 is the one I grab the most often. Behind that one would be a 7 of some sorts. Just today took delivery of a pretty much mint BM 970 pse BT coated knife. I mean never looks like it has been carried. Was a bitch getting the titanium liners apart but finally got it. All the grease was dried up and for the life of me it looked identical to the grease EKI uses. Put it all back together and smooth as butter now not that it wasn't before mind you. I will say this Ernie's designs are purpose driven when you get right down to looking at them and analyzing them. keepem sharp

The 14 is one of my regular EDC blades too, i have no issues with it at all but I do think maybe a more acute point over a longer blade would help me with what i use it for but it still does a great job and is already a classic folder i think

ya should at least look at a SOCFK, i thought the handles on the '14 and SOCFK were similar, kinda anyway.

if i lived in an area were a +3" blade was illegal i would pack a '14 too, but i like a longer blade like a '12 or '13 myself.

since the '14 was designed with sub 3" legality in mind i doubt ya will ever see a super '14.

Would it be a wise move for Emerson to graduate to all frame-locks? Just Tinking.

I've had a couple of the SOFCK's and basically just didin't care for them. I have a 2k I think it is left in HC with a PE. I forget who I rec. it from but I am the second owner. Like the clip point blade well enough though. This is a homemade " pimped" version but have held on to it just never carry it. Had a pse of the same knife nib and a tanto which I liked well enough but still just something about them that I didn't keep them. Beats me. keepem sharp

i dont think i would want all of them to be framelocks, it doesnt really matter what i want (or anyone but ernie really) cause it aint gonna happen, not anytime soon anyway.

actually there are a lot of things i want them to do, a bolstered production for one, going to 100% framelocks is wayyy low on the list, wouldnt be a bad thing though as long as it didnt make all of them cost ~$250 and up.

I'm glad you are happy with your CQC14. My buddy has one of the early one's and his experience hasn't been so good. According to him his liner has worn prematurely and won't pass a light spine test, and is almost afraid to even use it. Also, from what he said the finish is pretty rough, the back spacer, and liners loked like it was finished with a grinder, not something he expected in a $150 knife. I was plannig on buying one of these, but decided to stay away from the Liner lock, and am glad I did, especially after hearing about his experience. It's a shame as the 14 looks like a perfect knife for me with the short blade and full length handle. Somewhere I read there were some issues with early production runs. It would seem from your experience things got straightened out.

I have a user pse that is #017 if I remember correctly and I have used it alot until I bought my PE and no problems whatsoever with anything on either. My PE is #104 and again 0 problems with every day use. keepem sharp

Hi all. Quick question re: the snubby. What is considered a "low" serial number?

A friend just picked one up, and we're wondering if this one should be for hard use, and putting aside.

Thanks.

My apologies on that last thread - i meant, should be used for hard use, or should be put aside in a display case.

thanks.

Ernie really doesn't budge, I requested some parts for my beaten CQC8 and he would not sell it to me he wants me to send the knife to him, but it's just hard for me to do so now as I'm overseas still has 14months to go.
