As many of you know, I've been working on scales for the ZT 0650ST Combat Auto. I'm happy to say that I have got the crossfire mechanism to work properly with one of my scales. It fires and unlocks properly and the safety is secure. It isn't finished yet, but everything else is cosmetic.
The wood I'm using is desert ironwood. I figured that, if anything, it would be strong enough to work. The scales are bookmatched and I will soon be working on the other side.
The slot was drilled out and finished with chisel and sandpaper. I cut the recess with a router bit mounted on the drill press. The holes and countersinks are pretty straightforward.
I didn't expect to get this to work on my first attempt. I'm pretty happy right now.
