I received an unexpected gift today from my father-in-law, as we were leaving from a gun show. While there, I had the first opportunity of handling a Cold Steel Vaquero Grande, and all that I could say about this HUGE folder was WOW!!

He seemed to like it too, so much that he ended up buying it....and giving it to me as we were getting in the truck to leave!! :) :D I don't have any idea what to do with such a large folder except to keep it in my truck(in a very secret location ;)) as an emergency blade to cut seatbelts and stuff....

All of you VG owners, what do you use yours for and how do you carry it(car, home, etc.)?

I carry my V. Grande in my coat pocket in the winter,in the the summer I stick it my waistband (no sheath).Uses..........Hmmm good question? It's a wicked knife and I love mine.Great knife.

Mine is in my bedside drawer next to a .38 right and ready to fight off ghosts in the knight. What a knife! I can't say that I am crazy about cold steel but they do have a few unique designs.

I use mine as a steak knife in French restaurants.

Actually, I've had one for years, and carry it on walks in the local woods. We had a lot of vines and thornbushes along the nature trails and I use the VG to slash through them, clearing the trail. It is a great little pocket machete. It is so long that when my ankle get caught in the underbrush, I reach down with it and flick through what's got me.

The best job it ever did though was one day I heard a bird going nuts in the bushes. I looked over to see a robin caught against a branch by fishing line wrapped around its leg. I would have gotten ripped up reaching my hand near the bird, but I was able to insert the tip of the VG between the line and the leg and cut the line free. The bird dropped to the ground and ran into the underbrush.

When the tiny serrations start to roll over, I stroke the flat side with a pocket steel and it sharpens right up.

I have the old style with no clip but a kydex sheath, which I like, but I generally just drop it in a front pocket. One pair of hiking shorts has a cellphone pocket and the VG fits in it perfectly, just the tip sticking up.

I tried to replace it with an X2 Voyager, but the Voyager's edge rolled and rippled and then a big chunk broke off. Too bad; they seemed identical exept for the blade. I guess the flat grind is stronger or the steel was better way back when.

It's a miniature chain-saw. I last used mine to cut the top off of a litter pan for ferret cages so it would fit in our rat's cage.

Cold Steel recently renamed the El Hombre and El Lobo "Large Vaquero" and "Medium Vaquero" while still keeping the "Vaquero Grande" and discontinuing the original "Large Vaquero". Thank goodness they kept the nifty serrations and AUS-8 steel.

I wish they'd make one without the serrations. Even a 5" version. I picked up a plainedge El Lobo but it doesn't see much use. The design works best on a big knife. Weren't they going to make a plainedge Vaquero in AUS-10?

Don't tease! AUS-10 would be wonderful. I found that my plain edge El Lobo dulled super easy whereas my serrated one was swell.

It's a cool knife, but WAY too big for my tastes.

Got one, looked at it, laughed, and never carried it.

I would vote for it in the "Most likely to cause sheeple to run away screaming" category.

I wonder how it compares to the CUDA Maxx, size wise.

VG has a 6" double-recurved, fully-serrated AUS-8 blade with curvy Zytel handle.

CM has a 5.5" D2 clipped or stilletto-like blade with relatively straight titanium handle.

CM has integral quillion to help prevent hand from slipping on blade should piercing applications stop short.

VG has 6" double-recurved, fully-serrated AUS-8 blade to cut hand should piercing applications stop short. Handle easy to grip tight enough to reduce that risk.

Through the years, I've owned 3 or 4 of those monsters! The one that I have now, I sometimes carry in my left front pocket, but it does make it hard to sit-down.:D.

Thanks for the replies, you guys. The VG is definitely a knife that would send even the biggest of bad guys running.....:D ;)
