I dreaded the day I would say this but I have decided to stop buying knives:(
I had two for crimbo and I have a Scrapyard scrapper 4 on order and once I recieve that I will buy no more !!!
I can no longer justify the buying of another.I have long been of the opinion that smaller fixed blades are the ideal knives for my needs and now have them ranging from 2and a 1/2" blades to 7"blades with materials from 1095,VG10,D2 and INFI among others.
So the only reason I will buy again is if I have to replace one due to breakage !!!
A sad day I know but I will not leave the forum :D

I'l pray for you :D

Yeah, understandable. I made the same decision with guns.

When I had all the major calibers covered, I didn't need 4 more 9mm's, or 2 more .45's.

I had what I needed for my purposes and still loved the hobby. Kind of the same with knives. I rarely buy more and have my bases covered in terms of custom, tactical, skinner, chef's, etc.

I didn't need to duplicate more of the same.

It's a wise decision in my opinion. As much as I like good knives, it makes no sense to buy knives that I don't use at all. That simply makes no financial sense whatsoever and you might as well throw your money away.

I am of the same opinion. I just purchased a nicely used Mini SOCOM from 98 off another forum. I don't see me buying many more to tell the truth. I have about all the f.b's I need and folders too, both trad. and tactical. The reason I bought the mini is that it will go well with my 98 SOCOM which I think are about as good a prod. knife as you will find.

I am going to get a tactical long gun and truthfully am looking at a Garand belive it or not. Heavy duty, accurate, powerful and reliable, reliable, reliable. I have also had a number of custom knives and a few Sebbies. I have found that most well made prod. folders are adequate for just about anything I may need. I keep comming back to a certain few knives to consistently carry. My 710, MOD Trident/Temepst, 98 SOCOM, and my Commanders or 7's. I find that the previously mentioned blades fit just about any need I may have or forsee to have in an edc. keepem sharp

sounds perfectly reasonable pitman, shows character, discipline and intelligence

Well, at some point, it might not be prudent to *buy* anymore knives, but to trade the ones you currently have. There are some knives that are never going anywhere, like my dodo or morpho, whereas others are more negotiable. You might create the perfect all star team.

I have slowed down big time on my knife spending an am enjoying the ones I have much more as result. I've been selling my queens off to get a couple higher-end users that fill my needs/wants. I'd rather have it that way.

nothing wrong with buying a few from major brand leaders that are or you think will be out of production. can't get hurt with spyderco in my experience. you can even keep up with when they are discontinued and jump on them right away. not like they are going to be worth less later.

OK so I cracked ;) When I said it would be my last purchase I meant it, but then before I had used my SS4 the price shot up and I decided to make it a safe queen for a few years and then pass it on to my son !!!
Due to this turn of events I once again had a Carbon steel edc void to fill :(
and so I have made another final purchase, well in truth my wife made the purchase for me as a birthday pressie, and I am awaiting the delivery of a SY Dumpster Mutt !!!
And this REALLY is my last purchase !!!!:D

Same with me, except besides the above I also have a passion for high intensity LED flashlights. I've got dozens but I can't seem to help myself when a new one comes along. We all have weaknesses but I'll bet that when a nice blade comes along that you can't resist; you'll break down and buy it. Otherwise you are fully in control of you desires, and for that I envy you. :D

LAST PURCHASE!!!!...............Riiight, that's what I said about 4 knives ago. HEHE.

He man it's alright, I'm not getting any more knives for the next little while cause my hours have kind of dried up, I have alot to enjoy knife wise for the next little while. Maybe it's your chance to have some fun cutting and chopping with what you have for now.

PitMan, the dog may be happy about this decision, but I am not.

Will there be no more pictures of knives laid carefully on a woolen jacket, the edges glistening, whispering their aching desire for one last cut? .... or for the warmth of new steel to snuggle their bolstered backsides?

Will there be no more posts, gracing and sating our lust to hear of your most recent acquisition?

Will your pit and her offspring suffer their punishment shamelessly at the hands of blades of a bygone day... blades that should long since have been retired.... blades that have punsihed once too many times before? Will she not long for the silky feeling of a newly ground wondrous edge as a token promise that she will never again chew upon her master's leather slipper?

Will your young son not long to see his father's wondrous excitement upon the opening of the latest offering from the day's keenest knifesmith?

Shall we, hereafter, refer to you as.................. PicMan?

A sad day is upon us. I too shall pray for you, PitMan. Will the others not join me? Let us bow our heads in prayer............

P.S. Have you seen BM's latest Activator+, the long-awaited BM201 in D2? On the net for only $78 !!! (PM me and I'll send you the link) :D

Stretch,

This is Pitman's wife! If Pitman continues to purchase knives then he'll be looking to purchase a new home and looking for a new wife! I was the one that spent the time sat at the computer waiting to purchase the latest addition to the family while he was working! As for our Son, he is already rubbing his hands together thinking of the bounty that will eventually come his way. As for PitMutt, she knows her true master!

Knowing Piman though, there will be another "new and improved" knife that will come out and he'll promise me AGAIN that it will be the last one.......Yeah, right!

Mrs Pitman x
