Anyone seen the movie The Defender starring Jet Li? I know it has nothing to do with a balisong, but in the movie, this assassin, who came to get revenge oh his brother...had this sword that drained the blood from people. It was star shape, if you look down on it. I think there is a sword out there like that one, but I dunno the name of it. Can someone help me out? It could be a fantasy sword...but it makes a lot of sense...the draining blood thing. Thanks

Hi there,

I saw the movie back a couple of years ago. the said weapon is has a triangular star cross section. I don't think that can be blood drainer except that the wound is more difficult to heal, you a star wound instead of a line (cross section of a normal blade).

The good thing is if the metallurgi is good, the blade will be much tougher from breaking.
Weakness is: you can't cut. It is merely a thrusting weapon.

I believe what you are referring to is the common name of so called "blood grooves". Anything that can draw blood out is just pure fiction. These are fullers made to strengthen the blade by providing another edge. I have seen many like it, none to functional as blood grooves or anything of the sort serves no purpose but to make things messy. If you were to stab someone, you probably do not want to have blood draining out of them, you want a clean cut which can only be provided with a good profile blade (no star). Just my thoughs, probably totally different that what your talking about but worth a shot.

I *think* the blood groves where first made to drain blood, but on knives now i see it advertised with leather sheaths, it allows air to go in as the knife is being pulled out(doesn allow a vaccum to form) thus, allow teh knife to slide out rather than being pulled out with force to overcome the vaccum.
