This production over-run model has dripped like a slow leak into my hands, but now a couple of customers have them and I would like to invite them to make their comments public on this forum. I know they LOVE THEM.

For those who don't know, this model is a variant Mean Street with Desert Tan, Diamond Quilted canvas micarta handles and a blade that's a little thinner than the standard Mean Street... .230 INFI instead of .250 INFI. The pic can be seen at the link to my Variant HQ below.

Numbers are limited and I am still taking orders for now...feel free to call if you are interested. The price is $197.00 + $5.95 shipping.

Yours in .230 INFI, I remain,

Well, Andy, since you asked. I've had mine for a short time now and haven't really had an opportunity to use it a whole lot yet, so I was holding off on posting until I had a better chance to wring it out. I've had quite a bit of fun with it in the last several days.

I just got done using my DWMS for several jobs around the house. I broke down some old drywall with it, used it to trim and smooth out some PVC pipe in the bathroom, and cut several yards of sod to trace back and replace a length of low-voltage line for our new garage door opener. Just for sh!ts and giggles, I punched a bunch of holes in old paint cans. Then I washed and scrubbed the hell out of it and cut some peppers and onions to toss into a quick stir-fry for lunch. I finished up by whittling on old pieces of 2X4 studs I had kicking around the basement.

This knife is simply amazing, it cut and cut, punched holes, scored drywall, trimmed wire, and cleanly sliced through the skin of the red peppers I was drooling over. I noticed no appreciable dulling (based on how cleanly the pepper skin cut), and only saw minor scuffs on the coating after the Paint Can Attack. The edge geometry is awesome, and I think this thickness is a great compromise for those who wanted a nuclear tough Mean Street, the proverbial Busse Pocket Prybar, but wanted a slimmer edge geometry. A 3/16" thickness might be a bit better for general use, but I like the thicker Busses because they'll take all the sh!t you can deal it, and keep coming back for more, so the .230" worked great for me.

I absolutely love the new handle. The checkering is just agressive enough to afford a great hold and grip, but not so rough that I noticed hot-spots or abrasions during use. Jerry is really onto something here with the shallow checkering. I also like the look of the Desert Warfare handle color with the brass rivets, it's a very attractive change from the plethora of basic black seen in the knife scene these days. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with basic black, but a dash of color is a welcome change for me.

What I want to know now is if Jerry can do the Desert Warfare handle on my Steel Heart. What a beautiful and awesome combo that would be.

Oooh, a chance! Hey Andy, drop me one of those promo offers for the DW Mean Street again. I didn't save the mail you sent previously about them and I need my girlfriend to have a course of action for getting one for my birthday

I have not contributed in here, because I was doing it in another thread. So anyway, you mean to tell me that this is not as thick as the mean streets gets. I really like this little knife. It's thickness rivals the larger models and I just can't imagine any damage comming to this tuff little blade. I just ogt it this week so havent had time to play with it. I will get out and abuse..er.. I mean use it maybe this weekend, hopefully. I wish the handle wasn't as pretty as it is. It makes me feel bad to have to beat it up.

Andy,
Super scan of the new line models on your temp site! I've always wondered what the Steel Heart looks like- now I know.

Andy, you're playing an April's Fool gag a couple days early, right? Tan handle scales on my older Steel Heart? Jerry can arrange something like that?
