the diff

Swamprat is the Hummer, Busse is the Lamborghini LM004

And Scrap Yard is the dinky old Land Rover that will keep going forever, won't get stuck between two trees, and costs a fraction of either of the above ;)

Seriously though, as others have pointed out, main difference is the steel, and some design elements like the talon hole. All are great quality with a warranty that is hard to beat.

I dunno if there is a significant difference in price on Swamp and Scrap offerings.

The Swamp Warden was $58. The Scrap Warden (or whatever it's called) is gonna be $50 or so.

The main difference is that the Scrapyard is using Res-C and the Swamp is using Micarta. I'd suspect part of the cost increase in normal blades is machining and fitting the micarta.

I guess the price difference is there (HRLM vs. Yard Keeper - $130 vs. $80), but it's not significant.

The other ADVANTAGE to the Scrapyard is they get some INFI on occassion. :)

50 vs. 58 would not change my choices in any degree, its just not enough to sway me one way or the other.

Now, 50 vs 100, THAT would make me hesitate. Not long, but I would hesitate. Depends on the knife in question. A 50 dollar Swamp Warden vs a 100 dollar Busse Skelly Warden, the Busse would win out.

I dont so much look at price as I want what I want and will scrimp and save till I get it.

Dennis,
I agree that its a silly thing in this example. OTOH if your son could talk, i bet he would say that 3 months is a freakin eternity, while i don't share that view, even if I act like I'm 3 months old sometimes.

I think the 3 brands are nicely positioned and decently spaced. As your product gets cheaper your customer tends to be less affluent, so those dollars can add up quick.

Thats not really true with the Busse family, its an anomaly of sorts. There is a thread over in the Busse sub forum started by a poster who thought they were too expensive for the "common man" or Army grunt. Many of the responses were from non-com's and lower middle class income levels, including me constantly hanging just over the poverty level. By the fingernails. :o

Those of us in those brackets tend to scrimp and save to get what we want versus what we would settle for. That says a lot about the company. :)

Leatherman,

I have actually read that thread, or what existed of it a few months ago when it popped up.

I'm not exactly rich myself. Its an excellent testament to the company that they have achieved the "aspirational" status like that. I know that for me, the Scrapyards, and often the Swamp Rats, fall into impulse buy territory much of the time. Busse's don't usually fall there for me!

Either way, so far I've been happy with the distribution of the Busse family.

P.S. My first Busse, a Basic 11, should be arriving tmw, needless to say I'm quite excited.

ooh! B-11's are so nice! I had one in the shop for fitting a while back and really liked it. If I hadn't just traded into a Bushwhacker Mistress I would surely be on the prowl for a B-11.

Congrats on the score! What blade color did you get?

Leatherman,

I went for black on black.

Then, to make things interesting, i ordered a Gen II Howling rat, in black on black, with a sterile blade :D. they should make a nice, Res-c pair.

I'm a bit devastated as USPS told me i would be getting it today, but then changed their mind and decided just to sort it some more!

OK, so the USPS lied again and i received BOTH :D, AMAZING!!! taking quick picks, I'll post a new thread, and perhaps a pic together to "show" the difference here too :) off to admire them some more

Here they are together
