Can someone explain the difference between a Heavy Duty and an Active Duty to me. Thanks in advance

Same basic shape / design, but the active duty is a much "slimmer" knife... It has a thinner spine and a saber grind (i think).

The Heavy Duty is a thicker spine and a flat grind (i think.) edited -- also a saber grind.

The only diff is thickness..
They are both sabre grinds.
Tan HD on right side...Muddy milganza on left...

They're all saber ground, the orig. AD was ~.150, the HD ~.200, pretty much a fatter version of the same, ~ 3/4 height saber grind

The Milli-ganza "AD's" are ~.187+ and are ~ 2/3 height saber grind.

The pictures don't show it too well (only one i have cued up), but look closely at the height of the plunge line, it's significantly lower on the milli AD's. I just noticed this recently.

thanks for the correction, i was thinking they were the same as leaner and meaner grinds...

Deusker -- that off duty is awesome!

I think it is very vague as to any difference between the Heavy Duty and the 2007 run of what have been called ADs. My “2007 ADs” run from .192 to .205 thick. So they are far closer to an HD than an AD which was .15.

I think Jimmy J is right! Here is a pre 2007 AD with an HD... next photo is the old pre 2007 AD with newer MilADs and some others. The line on the old HD and AD looks to be higher that on the new ones. Good eye Jimmy. I no longer have the HD to check. It made its way back to its first owner.

That is Mammoth Tooth Ivory. I had posted it a few times already but I NEVER get tired of it:thumbup: I should send it to Lunde so you can all see what it really looks like.

But I'm not :p

Beautiful scales, I tried for one on the mammoth SH-1's. Is it heavy ? as in fossil = rock = heavier than most materials ? Just wondered what it does to the balance, if any.

I'm figuring with the G-Rex there's less material than if it were solid.

It is heavier than others I have a scale here somewhere that I use for bike parts... yeah that's it.... bike parts:foot:, I'll see what it weighs.

The Mammoth is .190 kgm

The T REX wood .170 kgm

So 20 grams is .7 Oz.

The blades are the same thickness.

That is a lot for the small amount of material that is in the T Rex handle. Also the MTI is much more shaped and there is less of it there than on the wood T REX.
