The different liner locks of the Kershaw Leek

I finally gotten around to a second Kershaw Leek. So far I have one with a 410 SS handle and the other has a smoky blue aluminium handle.

The one with the blue handle has what seems to be the older steel liner lock on the inside of the aluminum handle that moves across and locks it in place. The stainless steel handled one moves a whole section of the handle across. You can understand this of course, since the aluminum can't have the springiness the steel liner, while with a steel handle, you need to cut down on weight.

This gives the stainless steel handled Leek a much stronger lock in my opinion but it seems that it also makes deployment of the blade not as easy, as that much more metal is pressed across the blade. I found sometimes it just doesn't deploy the whole way until I work it all smoothed out. I had no deployment problem with the smoky blue handled one however from day one.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I imagining it?

I am guessing the Leek with the G10 handle locks like the first knife's liner lock, but how does the Rainbow, titanium leek and other versions do their liner lock?

Rainbow and Ti Leeks are frame locks.

Make sure you're not pressing the frame lock into the blade by gripping it too tightly (as you deploy the blade). Aside from that, yes, sometimes there can a brief "break-in" period. Or so I'm told. I've never really had a problem.

The laziness of the framelock can be attributed to any one of a number of things. RR is right, make sure you aren't squeezing it too hard and jamming the lock. If the knife is new it may need a little lube on the pivot and a break in period. If you have had the knife for a long time it may need a new torsion bar. Any and all of these things are easy fixes.

My two lock up the same catching the blade on the liner side plush the way my Military does and the way I prefer. My Needs Work would go to the middle portion or about 40%.
