What do you all think of the dodo for edc? would any of you recomend this knife before the millie?

Thanks your pal Hydraulicman2003

for general utility, I'd take the mili
But the reverse S does have a thin point and a great slicer.
Ask anyone who owns a cricket.

I love the Dodo. I'm defintely getting one, all these unique little knives are so much fun to collect! And it was designed as an EDC, so i'm sure it will make a good one.;)

First of all, what do you want the knife for? The Military and Dodo are two very different knives. I have a Military and it works GREAT for daily utility. It is an excellent slicer, very light, very tough, and just overall one hell of a great knife! It is currently running neck and neck with my Sere 2K for my favorite folder.

I plan on getting a Dodo too, although until I handle it, I'm not exactly sure what jobs it is built to perform. I just think it looks cool...:D

Sure the Dodo could be used as an EDC, but I wouldn't recommend it over a Mili for anything except scoring.

It is definitely an EDC for me. I work in an office environment, very "anti" oriented. If I were to produce my Chinook, SOG Delta Elite II or (Heavens!!) my Cuda Maxx, I would probably induce several heart attacks. I customarily carry a much smaller, more traditional pocketknife for everyday duties. Any larger knife carried for "emergencies" must be completely concealed; no clips or sheaths exposed to view. Due to blade length restrictions in my state, the Dodo is legal to drop in my pocket, while the bigger blades are a no-no. The Dodo blade is short, but has a very aggressive cutting format and "pops" open like lightning from the pocket. The grip is very secure and comfortable to grip.

It suits my needs as a lightweight, serious-purpose "office knife." For outdoors or other more rugged tasks, I'll pack a larger, heavier folder (or fixed blade).

My Dodo is going through it's "trials" right now. So far it would seem to make a great EDC. Many on the forums do not take into account that popping out a 4" bladed knife is a No-no in many places in this country (Sadly this number is increasing). If I pull out a Milli or 710 in my office you can see the eyes rolling and here the bleeting.

As for the Dodo itself I really like it. The handle is big enough to hang onto while cutting. The knife can be held comfortably in many different way for various tasks. The blade shape gives a great point for fine work and cuts like a demon. The shape is not for all types of cutting but we are talking utility EDC here. The knife can be popped open very quickly and the back spacer takes the punishment of flipping not a small pin. Between the clip and the scales it really hands on to the pocket (maybe a little too much). The lock is a bit recessed but you will not accidently unlock this knife . . .

So far it's been great....the test continues :)

I posted this a few days ago in the Spyderco.com forum:

Helped my wife move into her new office (she works for some psychiatrists) and my SE Dodo became the office pass-around for opening/breaking down boxes, cutting off packing plastic and plastic ties, etc. The only thing I refused to let happen was a request for "something" to pry open a paint can! Stayed sharp, and even the doc's wives didn't seem to flinch when they saw it (maybe they just expected it of me, dunno) but they all came and borrowed it at some point. Worked great.
I really do love this knife. It's my utility EDC.

thaks for all your help I belive that I will be purchasign a dodo withing the next couple weeks... I have a g-10 harpy that I like verymuch but I it seems like the dodo would be a better cutter...
