Just got mine in the mail today! Boy am I impressed! The USMC design is now just a fatter tang away from being perfect! The half guard and extended pommel with lanyard hole changes grip options quite considerably! Being able to easily do thumb on spine grips as well as the added security of the extended pommel is fantastic! Mine came with an outstanding edge so sharp and even its almost mirrored! Now off to Razors Edge Knives to have the swedge sharpened to match!
 
I saw that on the website a few days ago. I really wish this would have been out when I bought my ka bar. Do you think the new guard feels as solid as a standard double guard?
 
feels even more solid actually. Being able to do thumb on spine grips now makes it feel totally different. The extended pommel allows confidence in low handle gripping and the color of the leather is nice and bright. Mine also came with an amazingly even and sharp edge. Its going off to Razors Edge to get the swedge sharpened to match. I wish I could upload pics from my phone. I dont have a web cam. If I could Id have pics all over the place I have a pile of Ka Bars 5 of which are going out for re profiling and cerakote at the end of the month would love to show those off
 
I'd love to see pics if you can get them up. I'll bet they're going to look pretty cool with the cerakote and sharpened swedge.
 
they better. These are 5 different fixed blades that I sent to some hack in Ohio last year to be pro sharpened instead of hand sharpening them all like I paid him to do he very obviously ran them clumsily through a belt sander convexing all my edges swedges as well then for some reason decides to "polish" the entire blade on all 5 so they look shiny which was an obvious attempt to cover up some of his mistakes. So he butchered my edges and thinned the coating on all 5 knives. Needless to say I hit the roof he wouldnt answer my calls or emails. I hope Josh can save the edges through re profiling and that they are not shot to the point of being unsalvageable. At least I get to choose cool new cerakote colors. I know my 1211 is getting armor black from tip to pommel so thats one down.

I dont have a web cam and my PC is pretty basic. I have a camera but my PC has no programs able to handle photos or photo editing. Most I can do is take pics with my I phone and upload them to facebook. If I knew another way Id have knife pics all over the place that new Dogs Head is the value of the year!
 
Wow man. If anyone screwed on of my knives up like that Id be awful upset too. I really dig the patriot brown color. Any foliage or sage green would look sharp on a ka bar.

I might have to check these out. I'm pretty strapped for cash at the moment but my next knife was supposed to be a bk17. This is really making me rethink that decision.

If you don't mind me asking, why sharpen the swedge? Is there any practical purpose? I doubt it's for combat since that's not really likely, but maybe?
 
Just a note, sharpening the swedge will make the knife a dagger in the view of many state and local laws, Texas being one of them.
 
I dig Patriot Brown as well! The Foliage and Sage green are both very nice one of which may go on my jacked up 1464. Dagger? Technically the USMC is already a Bowie according to state law which is ridiculous considering the entire state of Va is one giant military base. There must be more Ka Bar/Camillus/Ontarios here than anywhere else on earth so why not go all the way? Once I got a late 90s USN Fighter in perfect condition with factory sharpened swedge you just never go back. It was designed that way from the start anyways. I love having a back cut ability! If I ever get to hunt again that will come in very handy cleaning game that and it just looks super cool. Josh down at Razors Edge put an amazing edge on my recent Ontario Fighter including swedge. I see an older Ka Bar Fighter in great shape it means a couple of things first it means the swedge is factory sharp and it also means the grind is different and the blade coating is different also almost a gun metal blue. Will be picking up a VJ Day commemorative USMC from this guy at a local flea market its flawless, sharp as hell and the gold filled engraving is flawless too...
 
so Ive got one jacked up Ka Bar cerakote color out of the way now on to jacked up Ka Bar #2 my beloved D2 Extreme Fighter. The blade coating on this one is the most jacked up its depressing. Was thinking Graphite Black blade gold or Burnt Bronze fingerguard and pommel. Josh suggested the Graphite black so Ill prbly stick with it. Gold may be to bright need to see more gold examples. Speaking of the Dogs Head I was trying to get it engraved through Tomars but they couldnt give me an answer if they could do it but sure as hell could send me a bill for it! Hit the roof. Dont plan on buying anything through them again luckily I found out who their engraver is and am waiting on an inquiry....

Ive got my webcam working now. I need to make a photobucket acct and upload them to there first will be done tomorrow Wed. The Dogs Head is the best $65 Ive ever spent on a knife. I love the bright brown almost orangeish color of the handle. Love the Dogs Head tang stamp and Dogs Head stamped leather sheath. Extremely cool purchase Im very happy with it so much so I may buy another just so I have one to use and another to display.

Thanks BeeKay! Yeah its just an immobile webcam though for now. Better than nothing. I sent 7 fixed blade Ka Bars to Josh at Razors Edge today to begin this edge reprofiling, cerakote and other modifications journey which at the soonest will take 2 and a half to 3 weeks. Josh is very aware that there are forum members watching all this. He may post from time to time as the 7 blade project unfolds and post in process pics as well I am pretty excited! Watch this space!
 
Awesome bro. I'ma watching! Yeah I did notice that actually. The only FU style KA-BAR that I have is the venerable D2 Extreme Fighter and it's got the kraton handle. I'd like to know if the leather on other new KA-BARs is really bright and orangey from new or if it is just the new 1317. Interesting..

Man, that is a beaut! I just picked up a short plain leather that's otw. I'm going to have to just buy used blades, that things too pretty I'd be nervous using it! Beat the hell out of it then sell it to me lol.

That Dog's head knife is really nice, KA-BAR has my attention for sure
The Pirate Dog stamp, tops the cake for me :o
I really like stacked leather handles, they age real good with care. !
