I've been accumulating (mostly) traditionals for around six months now. I have some very nice models as well as some quite inexpensive ones as well.

When it comes to daily carry, I typically find that one of the Douk-Douk brothers is in my pocket along with another knife. Though the Douk-Douks didn't arrive very sharp, they are extremely sharp now, amazingly rugged, and very easy in the pocket. And for the cost, well, they're quite the bargain.

They aren't the prettiest knives, but they may be the most robust (along with my Buck 110s).

The Douk-Douk is a stand out in so many ways, that it's actually an iconic knife. Lke the Mercator K55, Opinel, and Barlow, it has a rich and traceable history. Not to mention putting a very rugged easy carried cutting tool in a pocket for a very reasonable price.:thumbup:

super!

I just picked up a small a month ago and now it's replaced my straight razor. Are you planning to force patina one of them?

I am going to let both acquire their own patina over time. I've had the small a week or so longer than the big - and it's already getting a fair amount of patina. As I use my knives in food prep and also very often as a dinner knife, they get plenty of opportunity for patina. I am finding that these blades do not acquire a patina as quickly as my GEC 1095s or my Opinels.

Opinels are instant patinas. When I got my Douk Douk I cut an onion for dinner and it has a sexy ripple patina, blocking the Douk Douk etching on the left.

Got my Douk-Douk today. Around the same size as my Opinel #8. Holy Heck the back spring is a bear trap! If it closes on a finger you will be going to the ER. Tip was rounded so I spent some time on my mini-grinder making it pointier. Working on making it scary sharp now. Can't see it replacing my Opinel #8 as the folded metal handle is not as comfortable. That said it's an interesting knife with a cool history.
