Dude! You have been bitten by the CRK bug! *wince* bad pun!

There will be no CRK's left in the USA at this rate! Not a bad thing that...:)

Good afternoon........... Sah!!!

It's a strange thing, I have been collecting knives for a long time, but it's only recently, tht I have discovered the freedom, of being able to buy from the USA.

For years, I have been under the impression that it was forbidden to import knives into the UK, which has been reinforced by speaking to Mike Harrison, the director of the British Knife Collectors guild. He has told me endless'stories of people having knives confiscated time after time by UK Customs' Methinks he has a vested interest in discouraging the practice!!!! He sells more knives.

It was only a few months ago, that I decided I was going to Have a Busse Battle mistres come what may, and it had to come from the USA.
I telephoned UK Customs, and asked if I could have the 'special import licence', that Mike Harrison told me I needed. 'What licence?' sez the Customs officer.... then it all became clear.

What fun I have had since then. I have had fun selling all the 'crap' which I had been buying in the UK at extortionate prices, and have been refilling the coffers with QUALITY, at much reduced prices.

BKCG advice sucks!!

Watch this space, more on the way!!

:D :D :D :D

Kongrats from K-guy.....Nice piece. Hope you find it in your soul to use it. There are a lot of kollectors out there, but this knife is meant to be used.

BKCG...

Well I mailed them about a year ago listing all the steels they incorrectly listed (Ka Bar is 1095 not O1 etc etc etc.

I did ALL the work for them and even now they are listed incorrectly. It seems correct information is a low priority for this company. The blatent use of this forum to advertise is also lacking in subtlety... in fact even though the prices are only 'typically' overpriced I feel they are not a company I will buy from.

If you cannot say what you mean, how can you mean what you say? The detail is everything. Mike thinks a classic ATS-34 Sebi used in good contidion is overpriced at £230! Come on! If I had £230 spare, I would buy a true "classic" sebi!!!

Its like going to Currys and asking some technical questions about PC's, or even worse PC World:rolleyes: , they talk $hit and don't know jack $hit.

BKCG is the same in my humble opinion, they can't get steel types right even when told what is wrong, and they don't even tell people the truth about the knife laws in the UK:barf:

Bloody amatuer hour if you ask me.

Sorry all about the harsh language, it just gets my goat to see this kind of company pretending to be some kind of 'mission statement' 'Guild' for collectors... P L E A S E!

'Despite what you may have been led to believe, our (the UK) knife laws are amongst the most sensible in the modern World'

This BKCG quote makes me sick. We aren't allowed to have any knife that has a lock on the blade. And even non-locking knives must be under 3"! Idiocy!

Yes, how they chose to 'ommit' the fact that any sub 3" folder must NOT have a lock to be 100% steet legal all the time is a travesty.

Then to call this law sensible is a joke. It feels to me they just want sales rather than honest and truthful advise.

Yes you can carry if you have a 'reasonable' reason for carry, examples of which are clearly laid down. Also few of us have or ever will be searched by the police. However the wink wink nudge nudge attitude is both disapointing and ommiting the whole picture is deception in my book. A local dealer started playing these 'games' to avoid the reasonable concerns of honest citizens like myself who don't inadvertantly want to break the law.

One of the fundimantal parts of British Law is that ignorance of the Law is NO DEFENCE.

If someone (as has happened right here on this forum) asks if a 3" small Sebi can be carried in public without a care in the world and sees the half truth on the site gets a nice knife taken and a possible prison sentence then I call it just plian wrong.

If a site claims to be a specialist site, they aught to know the basics. Which plainly they do not.

I would welcome BKCG input and changes to the website. After all its not like I have not advised them of there errors already...

To make a mistake, have it pointed out and still do nothing about it, says they are either, lazy, incompitent or have an agenda in play.

Hello,

Ring just about any knife dealer in the UK and ask about knife law, and you get a different answer every time.... the answer that suits them, or is likely to sell more blades.

The only way to get correct advice, is to ring the Customs and Excise Waterguard branch at Coventry.... the unit which deals with imports to UK. This is what I did......

The advice they give can be relied upon, for they, at least know what they are doing.

Did you know, for example, that with the correct 'commodity code' written on the customs slip, you can import true 'collectors knives', into the UK with only 5% VAT payable?? You do now.

Simply put, the law allows the import of ANY knife, so long as it is not on the UK prohibited list.

This list is:

Switchblades, Flick knives, Balisongs, sword sticks, belt knives, or any other bladed weapon, for which concealment is its main purpose, and that's about it.

There are no other restrictions whatsoever. Period.

Import tax is payable at 8%, and VAT at 17.5% on declared value, plus import tax, meaning that effectively, we pay 25.5% tax. Most parcels however, seem to get through unchallenged, if USPS is carrier. Courier companies submit ALL packages for customs evaluation.

Carriage of knives in UK.... the law allows the lawful carriage of non locking knives, with an edge of 3" or less. That's it, simple. Carry anything else without a 'reasonable excuse' (reasonable excuse has for all intents and purposes to be PROVEABLE by the carrier), and you're in the do do. Carrying a 9" fixed blade bowie, for example will definitely get you arrested!!

Simple really, but that's UK knife law in a nutshell.

Next year however, the law will be changed. An guess who was a consultant to the Home Office?? That's right, you guessed it,.....

Mike Harrison, self appointed knife expert, and owner, and sole proprietor of The British Knife Collectors Guild..... I spoke to him about Busse knives a few weeks ago....'who are Busse????' Really!

The British knife collectors guild, is a one man operation, run from a house in the east of England. The title is completely spurious, and made up. It has no membership, no charter, no directors (except Mike??), no legal standing. It is purely a means to an end.... selling knives. Seems though, that this 'cloak of respectability' has been recognised by the Home Office.

I have nothing against Mike Harrison, in fact he is a nice guy, but what has annoyed me, is his stance against anyone but him, being allowed to import edged weapons into the UK........ of course, ask him nicely, and he will do 'all the paperwork, fill in all the forms, handle customs problems, and generally insure that the personal import of your knife is 'problem free, and pleasureable'..... but very expensive. I have bought £1000s of pounds worth of knives from him, simply because he told me that it was illegal to import knives myself. Mike.... that really pissed me off!!

But then again Mike, I was stupid to have believed you, but........
BKCG sounds so offical and respectable.

I never knew BKCG was a one-man operation. I feel quite deceived. I didn't know one man could be considered a 'guild'!

Not that I bought anything from them though (I'm poor), but following 'advise' from a few knife shops (including the 'highly respectable' BKCG) I used to carry a sub-3" locking knife. I never expected I could be arrested for it.

Luckily I wised up after talking to some police about it (on the net).
