the dreaded washing machine

So, my favorite Boker went through the wash in my jeans pocket. A medium stockman (carbon) with stag scales. Everything is fine I think. The shield is still there, but the shiny treated surface of the stag scales are now "naked". Just keep going, or is there something I can/should apply? Send it in for a spa treatment?

Any thoughts are appreciated. I haven't posted a pic in a while, but if I can figure it out...

Thanks

Get it thoroughly dry (I bet you did already) - compressed air blasted thru every crack and crevice is best. Hair dryer on LOW is second best.

Lube the pivot(s) after you are sure it is bone dry. I use mineral oil (pharmacy grade - $2 per pint at Wal*Mart). And put a skim coat on the blades and wipe off the excess.

You should be fine!

I use olive oil to treat my stag handle knives, might take a couple coats. P.s canola oil or other cooking oils wills probably work fine to.

I'd be hesitant to use olive or any other cooking oil, as they can go rancid. I had a stag knife that was very dried out, and I used hair conditioner on it. I applied it, let it sit for a while, and then rinsed it off. Then I wiped it down with mineral oil. There are also some waxes you can use, which I've been told is less likely to darken the stag.
